Americans are choking on surging fast-food prices. "I can't justify the expense," one customer says ( www.cbsnews.com )

Kevin Roberts remembers when he could get a bacon cheeseburger, fries and a drink from Five Guys for $10. But that was years ago. When the Virginia high school teacher recently visited the fast-food chain, the food alone without a beverage cost double that amount....

HeyJoe ,

Same here, but the reason this doesn't work is because a bic Mac meal doesn't cost $15. It's more like $10 or even lower with deals. If you are on a budget and have no time to cook, I can see how the cheaper option can still sway the decision. For me, it's lower than that and will settle for Wendy's 4 for 5. At $5 bucks, it's absolutely worth it every now and then when I just want something cheap and quick.

HeyJoe ,

He's full of shit and they will continue to blame it on the wrong reasons.

HeyJoe ,

It's only a little over a year old by now and even the first release was better than most of the stuff out there, but what it is today makes it better than anything I have ever used before on my phone and that includes premium apps like Spotify. At this point, I can't even think of stuff I would need anymore, but I can't wait to see what the next year brings.

Another note, the developer also created yatse, which I used over a decade ago as my remote control for kodi. Also equally as awesome as this is. He is very good at what he does, haha.

HeyJoe ,

I have a library that's been growing for about 20 years now. I don't think I got too serious until around 2009, which is when I discovered music servers to host my library and quickly realized how bad its structure was. It took years of me getting folders done correctly followed by then working on tags. Automation scared me to much since the results were not always 100%. Once it was done I have kept a system to keep it that way the best I can.

So for me once I get new content I use the app tagscanner to edit everything to the way I like, then I drop them into music Picard were I found a tutorial online a few years ago to set it up to just edit music genres. I found the one thing I never got right was music genres so finding this tool was incredible. Took months to run large sections of the library though. Now I got every track labeled with up to 5 genre tags. Once that is done I change folder names to what I want, drop them into my music directory folder which is root > artist > album (don't care about year since it's tagged). Scan music into my musicbee app and if any are missing covers I right click and tell it to find them. Then do a scan with navidrome to add it all there.

HeyJoe ,

Everything I do is manual, I don't really have duplicates unless I get singles then get the album once it releases. Even then, unless the single comes with extra bonus tracks (seems to be a lost past time, never see this anymore) I will delete the singles after.

Here is the forum post I originally found years ago to setup music picard to tag multiple genres, which is the only setup that I have that took extra effort and not just use out of the box defaults.

HeyJoe ,

Would have been cool if they made a modern day remake of this episode when the series came back.

HeyJoe ,

So you're saying we need to find and download all the pirated versions of games and keep them in our emergency bunker?

HeyJoe ,

I agree, I only came here in July after they finally followed through with pulling the plug on 3rd party apps. This place has grown a lot in 1 year. Still needs more communities for the smaller hobbies, plus less memes and political content, and it would be perfect. 99% of everyone I talk with here is super nice and helpful as well.

HeyJoe ,

Speaking of FF7, I am just about finished with Rebirth and all I thought was wow I didn't see a single update and it played flawlessly. Just shows it can still happen, just super rare.

HeyJoe ,

Trust me, no it's not... now if we had some kind of plan to help parents eliminate most or all of daycare costs then that would absolutely help with the decision to have one. The child tax credit is nice, but it barely helps with anything.

HeyJoe ,

No, home and pro EOL are the same date as enterprise. Enterprise editions are allowed the extra time because Microsoft already knows an insane amount of businesses will not be fully moved off 10 by that date and instead of making themselves look bad, they setup this program to tell everyone hey where here for you and also ready to make an insane amount of bonus money.

Idk if the article also mentions, but every year after the first, the price increases for each additional year. The did this with Windows 7 as well, I know all about it because I work for a company that had to do it for 2 years. Once the time comes you replace the systems license with a new key that continues to allow updates to work.

HeyJoe ,

I currently use Navidrome as well, but I really don't use smart playlists like that. For me, I use Symfonium on Android, which offers a ton of options and is incredible. In all my years of using a personal server to host music, this app has been the best by a lot. As for desktop apps, I don't use them much, but when I do, I use Musicbee, which also offers unlimited customization if you're willing to put time into it. It used to have a subsonic plug-in, but I have no idea if it's still active. I just use the local file location and treat it as its own entity. If the subsonic plug-in still works, it may allow you to do what you want since everything seems possible in Musicbee from my experience.

HeyJoe ,

I would also say that cameras were probably not that common to be held by kids back then either. I would say there is a good chance whoever took the photo was an adult as well.

HeyJoe ,

VirtualBoy was also a terrible Nintendo product from the 90s, which adds to the joke even more.

HeyJoe ,

Sadly I feel like this tradition is drying up more and more each year. I remember like 10-15 years ago tons of sites did really big things for the day. I honestly forgot today was April 1st until I saw this post. I miss it.

HeyJoe ,

As did my uncle... from my understanding, it happened when he was 12 way back in the early 70s, which left him deaf and has impacted his entire life, not for the better. I wish I could see the life he would have lived if that had never happened.

HeyJoe ,

Well, they will always have someone who can weigh in as a final decision when they both disagree on something. Sadly, I think it will be a bit one-sided.

HeyJoe ,

I agree. I was a big fan of Eastward and Risk of Rain. I need a good mobile game.

HeyJoe ,

I did play through that as well. I got it when it was free on psn a year or 2 ago. Played through most of it. I agree it was a fantastic game and had a lot of fun.

HeyJoe ,

Agree! Also, I agree with the other comment as well. Sometimes, and I mean sometimes, I can go for a frozen milky way or Twix but that's way different and even then that's like a once every 2 years thing for me.

HeyJoe ,

I am definitely not like others, I have only paid like 3 times on OF and they were like $5 each. Sometimes you just really want to see what that person looks like. 99% of the time I don't care and free is cool. Never got exploited, or had an unhealthy attachment.

HeyJoe ,

I don't make 200k, but together with my wife, we make a little under that. We both have cars, and both are paid off. I still have the first car I ever brought, which is a Nissan Sentra 2006 basic model. So, 17 years on the same car and hers is a 2015 Toyota. We do have 2 kids and brought a house in 2015. The last 4 years have been almost impossible to make ends meet, and all we try to do is survive with the very occasional do something for the kids. I have tons of housework I can't do but also can't pay for either. Because of this, we also can't move until it's taken care of, so we're kind of stuck here as well. We have no money to save or invest. Did we make some bad decisions? Sure, probably shouldn't have had kids for starters. They cost a fortune. But my point is we aren't doing anything crazy here, it's just that more and more things are taking our money and prices also went up. It sucks because all I want to do is live and get by, I don't really have any grandiose dreams of doing crazy things or buying tons of stuff. I just want to get by as my parents did, which seems impossible today.

HeyJoe ,

We purchased the house for around 300k, and even with the market today, it's about 500k. Sure, it could go for higher whenever we do sell, but it's not an investment. With our current loan we will have paid over 500k over 30 years, so I really am not expecting to make out from this. The only way this makes me money is when I retire (which is close to payoff anyway) and move someplace way cheaper than we're we live now.

HeyJoe ,

I live in North NJ. From my understanding, it's about as bad as it gets. House was 330k 10 years ago. We also have crazy property taxes, so that alone is 13k a year. I also live in a very rural area which was the only option for the area if we wanted some space and also keep house prices semi cheap.

HP’s 'All-In' Printer Rental Watches Everything You Print, Tells HP All About It ( www.extremetech.com )

In addition to tracking the printer’s online or offline status, page count, and ink levels, your rented printer will look at the types of documents you’re printing (e.g., PDF, JPG, Word), the types of devices that initiated the print job, “peripheral devices,” and other “metrics” related to the service, the All-In...

HeyJoe ,

That's what I was thinking! I never paid for a printer subscription service, and I never will, but they are really telling me I get to pay them to take all my data as well? If this is marketed at businesses in any way its a privacy nightmare, which would probably mean even if they wanted to use them they couldn't due to sharing confidential information. I also wonder how many companies won't know this until they already use them and realize HP has data on them that now holds them liable.

Fast food restaurant Wendy’s plans Uber-like surge pricing, with digital menu boards that change prices depending on demand ( edition.cnn.com )

Fast food restaurant Wendy’s plans Uber-like surge pricing, with digital menu boards that change prices depending on demand::The price of a Wendy’s Frosty could soon fluctuate throughout the day as the chain looks to introduce Uber-like surge pricing on its menu.

HeyJoe ,

I feel like this would only work if all the other fast food places did the same thing... please, please don't do that! Seriously, if it's peak time like lunch, why would I ever pick Wendy's, which is now super expensive, or just get shitty food from the other place a block away for half the price?

Also, it's going to be even more insulting when they no longer offer the cheapest items they have today, which I will assume will never be this low again, even at low points of the day. I really hope this campaign is a huge failure and the people who pitched it are fired because I really don't want to see a future where this is possibly the standard one day.

HeyJoe ,

Are we really going to see articles like this multiple times a day with the exact same comments in them for the next 9 months?

HeyJoe ,

Which one is that? I still see 4 for $4.44 or 4 for $5 deals plus I think some that are $6 where i live (and i live in one of the most expensive places in the US). It's still one of the best deals for fast food, plus using the app gets you something else for free to add on normally. Like right now it's a free 6 piece on Wednesdays with any purchase. So a burger, fry, 10 nugs, and a drink for $5 is a good deal these days, even if it is terrible for you.

HeyJoe ,

I agree, but I believe it's just a one-off, which is also completely fine, and I am kind of interested in what they do with the extra time.

HeyJoe ,

Could be, they do know each other. Even worked together.

HeyJoe ,

Nah, it finally came out that it was due to some work they were doing that caused it. I wonder who got fired for that blunder. Wouldn't want to be that guy...

HeyJoe ,

Normally, the odd times are because someone can't work the weekend, which is crazy to me since I am someone who accepts all the worst go live times...

Although the more I think about it, would there really have been a fantastic day or time? Even weekends suck because it affects everything so even then it would have sucked plus if it did bring down companies those people are now doing work on the weekends as well. Idk if I disagree with a late time smack in the middle of the week date for this the more I think about it.

HeyJoe ,

It's ok, just a tab bit boring. I definitely enjoyed the first single more.

HeyJoe ,

That's unfortunate for the small local music and dive bar near me called dingbatz then...

HeyJoe ,

It is... oh boy. I have only been twice since my friend has a metal band that plays there sometimes. I never knew and I doubt he knows that as well since he is definitely not into that either.

  • HeyJoe ,

The headline doesn't really match the video. They do state some issues, but ultimately, within 45 min, they were in and the mother didn't seem very upset. They also like the idea of this method over having to make up days in summer. I really hate misleading headlines...

Also I do agree with not having to make up days in summer, but last I checked you get like 5 snow days a year. Considering our area only seems to use 1-2 a year for the past 5 years I'm not sure why they wouldn't just use the snow days first then transition to remote if needed.

    HeyJoe ,

I'm sure I had a lemon, but I think I had either the first or 2nd gen phone and it broke within 6 months. I had it in my hoodie pocket and I felt it vibrate so I took a look and it went into boot loop. Sadly I did not turn on developer mode so I could not get access to it or wipe it and the reset wouldn't work either. Essentially it was wiped and I lost everything. I also don't remember why but they did not allow the warranty either. Good news was it was a work phone so I did not pay for it. It was the only one I tried and I will not go back. I enjoy my Samsung.

    HeyJoe ,

Pretty much. Thankfully, the job I work at only does business inside the country it's located I'm. If that ever changes, they will be providing us with the IP's to whitelist them.

    HeyJoe ,

Personally I would consider all of them unsafe until they are identified. Pretty sure that's how pharmaceutical drugs are handled so I'm not sure why it would be different for chemicals we don't know about. If the process is to slow then it's obvious the EPA needs a bigger budget and staff to work on this, instead of when Trump tried to cripple it even more than it already is...

    HeyJoe ,

I can think of 2 websites that didn't work right over the past 10 Yeats. Both were credit card payment sites and just had weird issues like couldn't hit the submit button. I figured it out and just used edge for them. I never found any site that I use often that has issues yet.

    HeyJoe ,

Samsung bill pay which is a tdbank site and joss and main furniture credit payment site... didn't think I had to list them to be taken seriously. Plus I am for Firefox, it's all I have used for 15 years now.

    HeyJoe ,

I still wonder what they are buying and from who. If it's the ISP I kind of wonder what they still get from me since I don't use their DNS servers and the ones I point to are setup for DoH for all traffic at home. I also use other stuff for added privacy. It doesn't take a lot of effort, I hope more people start taking their networks seriously and setup some easy bare minimum precautions to help make it at least slightly harder to track you.

    HeyJoe ,

Pretty soon it will be the norm that when you graduate high school you take your first bankruptcy and clean your slate before your life really starts to matter. Hell it's only 7 years, you got 4 years of college so only 3 more till you can start living again! Well I guess after you somehow pay off those new college loans as well.
