How do I install inkstitch extension in inkscape-flatpak?

I'm running Inkscape as flatpak on Kubuntu 24.04 and I wanted to install.the Ink/Stitch extension, but somehow this doesn't seem to work like it did on the apt/ppa version. I've tried the script install from inkstitch, and I've tried to manually copy the contents of the tar.xz to the extensions subfolder in home/.var/ and...

Completely different extension but this one has installation instructions that have different paths for installation depending on if its flatpak

If Inkscape was installed on Linux from Flatpakthe path is more likely ~/.var/app/org.inkscape.Inkscape/config/inkscape/extensions/.

edit - theres an open issue talking about this, too

Python is great, but stuff like this just drives me up the wall ( lemmy.world )

Explanation: Python is a programming language. Numpy is a library for python that makes it possible to run large computations much faster than in native python. In order to make that possible, it needs to keep its own set of data types that are different from python's native datatypes, which means you now have two different bool...

breadsmasher , (edited )
@breadsmasher@lemmy.world avatar

This explanation is pretty clear cut

What exactly is your use case for treating np.bool_ and bool as interchangeable? If np.bool_ isn't a subclass of bool according to Python itself, then allowing one to be used where the other is expected just seems like it would prevent mypy from noticing bugs that might arise from code that expects a bool but gets an np.bool_ (or vice versa), and can only handle one of those correctly.

mpy and numpy are opensource. You could always implement the fix you need yourself ?

breadsmasher , (edited )
@breadsmasher@lemmy.world avatar

Well, yes exactly

  1. Create fixes
  2. Request merge. assume denied
  3. Fork numpy and add your changes there
  4. after just continue to pull new changes over from source of the fork and deal with any merge issues with the fix

@breadsmasher@lemmy.world avatar

here’s a good question answer on this topic

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/18922407/boolean-and-type-checking-in-python-vs-numpy

plus this is kinda the tools doing their jobs.

bool_ exists for whatever reason. its not a bool but functionally equivalent.

the static type checker mpy, correctly, states bool_ and bool aren’t compatible. in the same way other type different types aren’t compatible

Its never too late to start learning something! I am sure you are well aware of your learning rate and how it changes as you get older but that doesn’t mean you cannot learn at all.

As a beginner, often Python is recommended as a simpler language to pick up and start learning.

Do you have a goal in mind with what you want to learn? Learning to write code in general is fine, but if you have an idea in mind that you want to program, different languages maybe a better starting point. For example if you want to build a web app browser based, id suggest learning front end tools like javascript. Whereas if its a desktop app you want to build, python would work well.

Or maybe you want to just learn programming as a concept without any specific goals in mind beyond how stuff works?

Is “diversity hire” a slur? If not, then why don’t we question the competence or qualifications of non-POC hires? Like why are non-POC hires not “cronyism hire” or “familiarity hire”?

I’ve seen this too much in the media and other places, and I am kinda sick of seeing people get unfairly criticized or sidelined.

What is the benefit of closing Studios? Why not sell them?

Yes, this is in relation to the closing of Tango Gameworks and Arcane Austin. Is there some immediate monetary benefit behind it that I have no idea about? Is it so they can keep the IPs and not have to deal with the developers? Are the Studios too expensive for anyone to buy? I honestly don't understand how these executives...

breadsmasher ,
@breadsmasher@lemmy.world avatar

I assume they want to keep the IP. Without any IP, a game studio (I think, could be wrong) aren’t worth anything to another publisher except as a really good, strong studio with a successful history. The studio would need to start from scratch, effectively, to develop new IP or acquire someone else’s IP.

Publishers could keep studios running, which is expensive. They seem to have communication issues ie HiFi Rush being a small, successful game by a studio they shut down and then going on to say thats the type of studio/game they want to focus on? Or having financial issues/less focus on games/no faith on new developments and instead just closing it all down to save money

This is just my layman interpretation of the situation

breadsmasher ,
@breadsmasher@lemmy.world avatar

There is no good way to spin this. Reads like a very poor attempt at a republican “gotcha”

  1. “Im pro choice too. Are you now anti choice? gOtcHa” - idiots
  2. Those legitimately defending it because they want to .. marry .. children - vile predators
  3. “Entice abortion instead of marriage” - remember he is talking about a minor who has been a victim of SA. This bill isn’t about “allowing women the choice to marry and keep the baby”. Its about legitimising sexually assaulting a minor, impregnating them, and then marrying them to make it all “legal and above board”

Conservatives, personally I do not agree with assaulting and marrying children. How can anyone ever defend this? Come defend your reps position. Or maybe wake up and realise this insanity will never stop while you continue to vote these predators into government
