Due to the severity of the situation and the fast flowing news cycle, we have decided to create a general megathread for discussion regarding the conflict....
First reddit didn’t go down, despite having an user base which had some kind of a brain.
While YouTube has everyone as users. Even like the most normie, boomer, zoomer users that think YouTube is the internet. No way they are going to switch for ideological reasons, unless the app just stops working.
I wouldn’t really mind a smaller pool of videos, if it’s guaranteed to have a standard of quality.
I’d even pay for YouTube if they offered such a service, where they curate their creators. E.g. I sometimes like to watch repair channels where someone tinkers with something. I have a handful of channels that I like for that… but what if there are many more that I just can’t find?
So I’ve been using youtube ad blockers since pretty much when ad blocker extensions were first available. Lately though I’ve been getting hit more and more with these messages that YT was sending out every 5 or so videos telling me that adblockers aren’t allowed. No problem, just gotta wait 5 seconds to x it out and then...
Yeah it’s horrible. For it to somehow be worth watching with ads, the ads had to be for a legitimate and relevant product, and the algorithm / video quality had to be much better.
You get ads for actually real products? Literally the only ad for a real thing that is available to me was about a cleaning company for house fassades… but I don’t have a house. Everything else is stupid games or apps, or porn or straight up scams.
[A]n INI configuration file in the Windows Canary channel, discovered by German website Deskmodder, includes references to a “Subscription Edition,” “Subscription Type,” and a “subscription status.”
Am I the only one that really hates huggingface? It’s such a confusing website to use, and most of the time the things just spit out errors. And I’m never sure if this is just a free thing, or a demo, or something that I have to pay.
But what exactly is a model? Can I download and run it? Do I need to access it through their API? Do I need to pay for some server that has all the needed software already running on it? It seems open and not open at the same time.
I know this will vary a lot, so hypothetically let’s say you currently WFH/work remotely at least 3 days a week. Your commute to work takes an hour max (door to door) each way. If you were given the choice of a 4 day week working onsite, or a 5 day week WFH (or as many days as you’d like) for the same pay, which would you...
The commute time is kinda worse than work time, so the 4 days in the office are equal to 5 days WFH timewise. And I would still be missing out on benefits like cheaper lunch at home and wearing comfortable clothes, and not being tired all the time. On the other hand, I would always have 3 day weekends.

I have a Jellyfin server, NextCloud instance, etc that I share with friends and family. Currently, I serve them over the open-internet using Cloudflare tunnels. In many ways, Mastodon feels like rewinding the clock on social media back to the early days of Twitter and Facebook. On the consume side, that means that your home feed has no algorithm (this can be disorienting at first)....
Bad content feels much much worse to me. E.g it is so infuriating to see those fake prank videos with tons of likes and positive comments. It kills my hope in humanity every time… At least an ad could be for some interesting legit product. 🫠
There should be a rule that every post must have an explanation in the comments… 99% of those are just not funny, maybe it would at least be interesting to have a historical context.
This is funny because people usually wan’t natural food, but this man is entering a store that apparently sells UNnatural food which nobody would actually wan’t to buy.
I don't mind the taste, but I'm extremely sensitive to it. If there is one bit in the dish, all of it tastes like cilantro and nothing else. Is this also part of the soap gene?
PSA: If you need windows, and you can install it yourself, install the Education version. It comes with slightly less crap preinstalled. (For the license just massgrave.dev that shit…)
That’s exactly the issue… you need to properly use it. Most people don’t, and can’t be bothered to when Windows is just pre-installed and mostly doing its job alright…
They are probably referring to distros that for legal reasons don’t include things like Codecs or proprietary drivers and stuff… and then you need to first research how to manually install those, after figuring out that you even need to do that at all…
The world’s top chess federation has ruled that transgender women cannot compete in its official events for females until an assessment of gender change is made by its officials.
It’s not helping to disprove that thinking if you need to create a separate protected league for women… Also what does it matter what other people think? It’s not a team based game… Also even if the clubs are separated by gender to create a nicer atmosphere during training or whatever, why should tournaments be?
The problem is that I as an user don’t necessarily know what I want to see. What if there is some super interesting hashtag out there, but I don’t even know that it exists?
