Seeing how this current judge has been handling him with kid gloves I wouldn’t expect anything bad to happen to him even if he did perjure himself.

I hope the pivot is just over to The Division 3.

The inside story of Elon Musk’s mass firings of Tesla Supercharger staff ( www.reuters.com )

May 15 (Reuters) - The day before Elon Musk fired virtually all of Tesla’s electric-vehicle charging division last month, they had high hopes as charging chief Rebecca Tinucci went to meet with Musk about the network’s future, four former charging-network staffers told Reuters....

Troops on the ground also means troop deaths on the ground. That’s one big difference.

These new games actually make me like the OG FF7 more, if that’s possible. Or, at the very least, make me like the world and characters more since they aren’t just cuboid freaks. 7 was never my favorite of the bunch even though it’s the most popular, but I sure as heck spent 100 hours in Rebirth doing most of the side content.

It’s a very good game hindered only by the fact they there’s not a minigame Square said “No” to.

garretble ,
@garretble@lemmy.world avatar

That’s true, but at least then you didn’t have to listen to Chadley before each one, ha.

Wasn’t there a post just yesterday about a study saying people are more apprehensive of their neighbors when their neighbors have this type of gun?

Yeah, this is why.

And yeah yeah yeah, any random crazy person could have any random gun. But when you see your neighbor loading up with these guns you kinda know they are extra crazy.

garretble ,
@garretble@lemmy.world avatar

“Could be?”

We know it is. I don’t wish for Covid again, but remember when all the waterways started clearing up (didn’t dolphins show up in Venice at some point?) and the smog cleared in places that haven’t seen a blue sky in decades?

There. I fixed it. Give me a job.

So I was thinking about subbing to Netflix again to watch something, and they had already deleted my account (it’s been about a year). So I went to my email to just try and verify that I was trying to login using the correct email address.

While doing this I found a statement from 2018. The price of Premium Netflix then was $13. Now it’s $23 I think. And they cracked down on password sharing so the service isn’t even as good, really.

Every one of these services has raised prices over and over, boiling us frogs in the pot, so it’s no wonder everyone now just subs for a month or two then bounces. It’s smart. The companies here are the stupid ones, chasing the all-mighty “line-go-up” quarterly statement MBA shit when they could have had loyal customers for years and years. I think I had a Netflix account for at least a decade or more (back when it was just mailing DVDs) until they started jumping the price by a few bucks every six months. It’s just not worth it to keep services around waiting for a show or two to come back.

It’s voice controlled, but also you have to tap it to start up an interaction. Maybe there’s a wake word I didn’t see in any of the reviews I watched, but I don’t know.

So in that regard, it’s less easy to use than saying “Siri, …” to your watch or phone.

Get ready for in about ten years we’ll see — even more than right now — how much methane pulled from the earth is screwing us. By then I feel like national news sources will finally start talking about how wasteful methane is and how much is leaking (and not used just wasted) from pipes all day every day that isn’t accounted for. I,mean, I guess that’s exactly what this article is about. But we need more talk about this all the time.

Climate Town had a great video about this that came out last week.

I guess it’s really hard to not so some crimes when you have too much money.

Roku has patented a way to show ads over anything you plug into your TV ( arstechnica.com )

A patent application from the company spotted by Lowpass describes a system for displaying ads over any device connected over HDMI, a list that could include cable boxes, game consoles, DVD or Blu-ray players, PCs, or even other video streaming devices. Roku filed for the patent in August 2023 and it was published in November...

Some smart devices.

The $20-30 cheap garbage is exactly what it is: cheap garbage.

Apple charges a premium for their streaming box, but guess what: the 4K AppleTV they released in 2017 is still going strong. I’ve had this thing for seven years, it shows no ads on the main screen, and still gets updates. And it’s still fast as hell.

Maybe the enshittification is just on all these Android streamers? I have a Chromecast with GoogleTV in my bedroom, and it’s fine. But it’s just about two years old and already sluggish (especially compared to the AppleTV), and every time I turn it on it takes longer than it should to update the Home Screen with trash I don’t care about.

Here’s a tip that may come in handy. Microsoft makes an app called PowerToys that lets you remap keys without having to dink around in the registry: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/powertoys/

The Hulu app runs so much faster on my appleTV than the Disney app, so while the idea of having them bunched together isn’t a terrible one from a user’s perspective, I’ll still just jump to Hulu when I want to watch that content because everything is snappier.

For gaming probably HDMI 2.1 for higher frame rates, VRR, and/or 40fps with ray tracing and whatnot.

But in general…not really. I just got a new tv for these features plus it having a brighter oled panel than my last one. But at this point I imagine I’ll have this tv for years and years.

garretble ,
@garretble@lemmy.world avatar

Not if I want to play on a giant screen in my living room on my couch with proper, nice surround sound.

garretble ,
@garretble@lemmy.world avatar

I wasn’t arguing most TVs weren’t ok for that.

But as an answer for if there were any “killer features” in TVs for the last few years, better inputs and panel refresh rates are about the best new things outside of brighter OLEDs.
