Oh I know exactly what you mean. I'm not dyslexic but do have a reading impediment due to being a visual thinker.

I forced myself to read national geographic from cover to cover for many years. It's quite a thick magazine with a decent level of writing. I've learned so much about the world, it gave me many amazing memories.

After that I was able to pick up some books. I don't read much, but what I read is of a high level. I would've never expected that this is the stuff I'd be reading at my age!

It was actually quite funny. I was biking and this man asked me for some cash and gendered me right. So I went over and gave him something and then he suddenly misgendered me when giving thanks.

Last time I misgendered someone? Never in someone's face actually. But I did while talking about someone. Because she was pretransition and always had stubble and would wear a baseball cap backwards. So in person she was clearly a she to me but in my mind's eye I just saw this man and so said he :/ oof

And the photo? Well it's hard to see anything on that photo. I'd say a he from the jawline.

I cook a lot and still have tons of plastic. Cheese. Quark. Cream.

I have chronic sleeping problems therefore I love(d) taking naps but waking up afterwards is absolute hell. What should I do? **Edit: I have found a short-term solution**

I am currently struggling heavily with depression. Which impacts my quality of sleep. Sleep now has never been a talent of mine. So I generally make up for it by napping. Have you tried any sleeping meds? Or at least sleeping tea?

Are you familiar with the sleeping cycles? If you wake up during the wrong part you'll feel like trash. You can set an alarm to avoid that. There's also devices that can detect when you fall asleep and then take care of that for you.

Further, how's your sleep hygiene? Ear plugs? Good curtains? Blue light filter on your phone?

It can also help to do a lot of sport. And I mean 2 or 3 times a day. And if your rythm is screwed just skip a night.

Further you'll want focus on reducing anxiety and working on mental health. I can recommend mindfulness.

I've noticed a lot of chill religious people on Lemmy.

Idk why I'm mentioning it but compared to a lot of other online platforms where if religion is being mentioned outside of a religious community it is really in your face on Lemmy it seems like when it is mentioned outside of that kind of community it seems relevant to whatever they are saying and are generally nice....

I run into anti religious people sometimes and then I like to mention that I feel we can all make it our own. It's just a human thing.

Of course it is nice when you have a community too but you can still be religious without that. Take the Bible for example. You don't have to be into what your local community is saying. You can get into that stuff in your own way, just the way you think is right. Nobody owns that.

I've always thought the idea that consciousness just suddenly starts with us makes no sense. I can't believe it exists within a vacuum.

Take the eye as analogy. Eagles might have the best eyes in one sense, but dragonflies have a panoramic view and see more colors.

There's also convergent evolution happening all over the place. If consciousness is useful for us, it must be for other animals too. Same for intelligence and so on.

Have a healthy spiritual life. That is, not be overly busy with myself. To be able to look beyond yourself and see that it's all connected.

A lot of people struggle with their egos and when you have to start facing the fact that it's transient you better be able to leave that behind or it's going to cause a lot of pain. I've seen it plenty of times.

I like the Dutch consent form for body donation. You can just checkmark what you're ok with and what not. I don't know all the details but I expect that it'll be used responsibly.

I think we can all agree that that's an important topic. Why can't we do that for other, often less important, things too?

Like sure, access my diary if your research is supported by a board but not for security purposes unless you have a warrant.

A Buddhist was saying to me that anything bad that happens to someone is deserved because they must have had bad karma as a result of having done something bad, either in this life or a previous incarnation. OK since there's so much engagement I'll grace you with a nice snack I love:

Peeled semi soft boiled egg
Slice of toasted dark bread, oven for a few minutes is fine
Prepare bunch of mayo with curry, cayun, sweet paprika powder, like say 2 spoons
Slice half an avocado up

Bread
Sauce
Avocado
Slice egg into halves
Chilli and salt

Tip: Place the avocado slices in such a way that it holds the egg halves snuggly. Put the egg in the center and cut it and the two halves will fall to either side.
