It is reliable and family friendly, comfortable size, no spectacular character but also no big downs.

I say all good boys live forever in our hearts. I know all my previous dogs do. <3

God damn, I though were being light hearted here. Now I got to go find a dark corner of shame.

Use whatever works for you. Don't take selection advice from people that make their operating system of choice a crusade and identity.

I think the "people are free to believe what they want to believe" is a mistake. This is the very statement that relativitises opinions and belief systems with facts and creates the illusion that they are all equal.

Look at the "facts don't care about feelings" crowd that believe wholeheartedly that statements pandering to their feelings are facts and disregard any actual facts as fake news. I don't think it's because they decided one day to pick and choose what is a fact and what is not, but they actually can't tell that there is a difference in opinions, beliefs and facts in the first place.

People need to accept that sometimes the truth is painful, that it contradicts what you want it to be, and worst of all - that you may have been wrong.

Edit: that said, I think people are free to believe whatever they want to believe when it comes to unprovable existential esoterica like personal values, afterlife, religion, whatever. As long they accept it is a personal belief and not an universal truth.

Reddit mirrors

I know it’s not popular and I’m typically against it but I was listening to a podcast and it made me think there are absolutely important communities that shouldn’t be on a centralised platform like Reddit. The contents of them are so important that it should be on the Open Social Web. I’m wondering if there is someone...

whaleross ,
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

I'm not against it if it is on a server or a cluster that are separated from the regular feeds. I don't want to be spammed with mirrored content and try to interact with bots.

Fazer Blå milk chocolate. Ghost chocolate. I buy it and then it is gone.

I think there is a Junji Ito novel with people raining from the skies. It is, as expected, quite unpleasant.

I grew up on the third floor without an elevator. Thinking of it, I've lived mostly without elevator most of my life. Some places on the first floor but mostly 2-3 floor. A year on a top floor penthouse apartment without elevator on the top of a hill. Last place was fourth floor with an elevator. Now I'm back to stairs only. It feels perfectly natural for me.

That's not brain fog. You're romanticizing a medical condition. My brain fog feels like my brain is walking through water. I know where I'm going and I know how to get there but every step on the way is slow and cumbersome and takes way more energy than it should. IDK what you are talking about. Delusional euphoria maybe.

whaleross , (edited )
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

I have no idea what you are saying. Maybe the frustration of trying to communicate but not be able to find the right words in the right order are the perfect illustration of what it feels like with brain fog. Except apply it to everything and a massive headache when trying to force it. It's nothing to be romanticised. It's not something anybody would want. Drunken delirium is something entirely different.

My intent was a quite light hearted observation that I've made over the years when a hip crowd takes a liking to a previously neglected area and very rapidly claim to be hashtag-first and whine about gentrification with stickers and chatter in the cafes of which none of its kind has been there before.

whaleross OP ,
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

Indeed, I agree with you fully. My observation was that the people complaining about the gentrification overlap heavily with the early waves of gentrifiers.

Dude. Chill.

whaleross ,

Worth mentioning that it is not about football, it's about the people in and around a football team. I have zero interest in football and Ted Lasso is one of my favourite shows.

Performing sufficiently for cheap production cost, they'd be a low RISC high reward investment.

whaleross ,
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

That's ok. So do I.

Are we trying to outmath the Danes or what is going on?

whaleross ,

I have a supposedly smart washing machine that came with the apartment. Setting it up in my locked down appliances network, it didn't work with home-assistance, required cloud access and wanted me to open up ports in the firewall. Nope. No network connection for you. You are a regular dumb old washing machine.

whaleross ,
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

Depends. I'm homebound due to an accident and illness several years ago and can't take part in activities or have a social life like I used to while I feel like I'm getting older and missing out on so much.

But then again I'm very fortunate that I have insurance so that I don't have to worry about economy and I'm pretty good at making the best of my situation and have projects going so I feel I'm moving forward even though in other directions than before and at a highly reduced pace.

So... It could be better. But it could be so much worse. To be honest, I feel way more thankful for what I've got than sadness of what I have not.

I think telegenic would be that they look good at a distance.

whaleross ,
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

That's weird in my humble opinion but okay then.

whaleross ,
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

Dog food is after the regular cans are gone and you're desperate. If I was a survivalist, I'd stack up on beans, peanuts, multivitamins and water purification of some sort. But I'm not so I don't. Good thing I have big bags of kibble and booze.

whaleross ,
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

Don't we all

whaleross OP ,
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

Make it blink. Irregularly. In their face.

whaleross OP ,
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

We don't have the same problem with immensely obnoxious self entitled people that you guys seem to have so the need is not sufficient to motivate a sign and hence even less to start a business selling them.

whaleross OP ,
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah i know. It's all tongue in cheek. I did consider of I need to clarify but decided in the end not to.

Lemmy Kilmister was a real person with a legacy of his own that deserves better than to be a funny gimmicky sticker to promote a social media platform.

whaleross ,

I've got a playlist with almost everything released by The Field.

It's like an engine that keeps my brain going similar to a gånglåt but for coding or writing or thinking.

whaleross ,
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

Because that is where the regular people are and I for one won't be bothered to try convince them otherwise because I know it is futile. I'll just check in every now and then to keep in touch with them and that's why I'm still there.

whaleross ,
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

That sounds fun. I don't think it exist so you could create it.

whaleross OP ,
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

I wish I could teach myself first. If I do, I'll get back to you.

whaleross ,
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

Do that thing you want to do but keep pushing ahead because you don't know if you'll be able to do it in the future.

Speaking from experience. Illness is a bummer.

It's done by overriding the document.onrightclick and the selection start something function in the browser. Reset it and you're done.

I know this because of a manufacturers website that does this. So incredibly annoying when the only reason anybody would want to copy from their webbo is for reference of their own products. In my case the product numbers to search for where to buy it.

whaleross ,
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

Honestly, I struggle to find the Gieger in it.

whaleross ,

Some time ago I had a fever dream confusing reality thing and when I woke up I had reason with myself that "no, I can't run a program in my brain". I couldn't decide if it was a disappointment or a relief.

Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, said that the Indian government is aware that around 20 people are stuck in Russia and they are doing their best to get them released as soon as possible.

“We have also told people not to venture in the war zone or get caught into situations which are difficult,” Mr Jaiswal said. “We are trying our best and we are in touch, regular touch with Russian authorities both here in New Delhi and also in Moscow and we are trying to do our best,” he said, adding that India was deeply committed to the “welfare of all Indians.”

Damn. I'd expect the Indian government to be at least a little pissed at Moscow for luring and forcing Indian citizens into the Russian military grinder. This sounds like they are trying to sweep it under the rug.

whaleross ,
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

It doesn't matter because they end up in the Russian military that is very much owned and run by the state.

whaleross ,
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

That doesn't make any sense at all. Is Russia not responsible for their army?
