In 1942, Japanese Americans were rounded up and sent to internment camps because of hyped up fears of ‘disloyalty’.
In 1944, thousands of young Japanese American men were drafted out of those camps and sent to fight for democracy.
Despite this, they fought gallantly, earning more than 14,000 medals.
Then veterans faced more prejudice when they returned home

@TheConversationUS @histodons This was a not uncommon story the world over. Same in Canada and Australia.

Back in the 1950s, a new, democratically elected Iranian government nationalized foreign oil interests. The UK and the US then backed a coup, deposing the progressive government with one more hospitable to foreign corporations:

@pluralistic … AND, why democratically elected governments on both sides of the aisle are so f* hamstrung when it comes to curtailing the whims of the fossil fuel corporations. Besides the donations and lobbying largesse.

@GottaLaff Hmm... is there anything they don't want the FBI to investigate by any chance?

Doing a little writing about and relationships today. Now I'm wondering if I can get away with using the terms "neuroconcordant" and "neurodiscordant" to categorize relationships.

neuroconcordant: (adj) having the same neurotype
    neurodiscordant: (adj) having different neurotypes

The main downside of these terms, IMO, is they smell a bit medicalized. Which isn't a surprise, since I lifted that construct from the words seroconcordant and serodiscordant, which are used to describe the relative HIV (for example) status of partners in a couple. A serodiscordant couple is where the partners have different serostatus - one is seropositive and the other seronegative. ("sero" is from the same root as "serum", and serostatus indicates if an antibody test shows detectable levels)

Are there any other less medical-sounding terms people already use for same-neurotype vs different-neurotype pairings?

@joshsusser @actuallyautistic FWIW, the way I see it, "neurodiscordant" sounds like people in mixed neurotype relationships are in a state of discord or ongoing conflict. Doesn't sound medical to me, more social, and not necessarily true.

@georgetakei People like DiSantis must live in a threatening, fear filled universe. Afraid that someone might think differently from them. Might have different values. Might be open to new ideas.

Ought to be pitied, really, but far too dangerous for that.
