If you "explore" the fediverse, you are going to see lots of negativity (and tankies).

Rant: vanilla local app search is ridiculously bad

For a search company I can't believe how terrible the Android app search is. I can't even search "bank" for my banking apps, and there doesn't really seem to be any metadata except for the title that goes into the search. Which is absolutely ridiculous given how many companies name their apps something cReAtIvE like "home" or...

The search is not designed to help you. It is designed to show sponsored apps and other results, so there is a better chance for Google's profit.

A stunning photograph of a fashion model walking the runway. She is wearing a unique, flowing dress that appears to be designed like splashing water, creating a mesmerizing effect. The model holds a glass bottle of water, emphasizing the theme of water and life. The background is a dimly lit, sophisticated runway, with a few photographers capturing the moment. The overall ambiance is glamorous, artistic, and eco-conscious., photo

It appears to me that most of the layoffs are from publishers of AAA games. Perhaps it is too hard for AAA game development to be sustainable. Too high costs and not always good return on investments.

Starfield showed us that bigger is not better.

In the broader sense, humans are in the Simians group too.

While both monkeys and apes are primates in the suborder Haplorhini and infraorder Simiiformes, they split into two different parvorders:

Catarrhini contains apes (hominoids) and Old World monkeys (cercopithecoids).
Platyrrhini contains New World monkeys

There are lots of similarities between the overcrowding in Hong Kong, and the "mouse utopia" experiment:

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/how-mouse-utopias-1960s-led-grim-predictions-humans-180954423/

Increasingly more people in Hong Kong are having mental issues. Lots of them live in stressful life, partly due to the crazy work culture, but the overcrowding with tiny apartments does not help.

Find a cheap hosting solution that provides a fixed IP address, then host your own VPN or proxy server there.

Edit: if you use a non-standard port for the VPN, it should be less likely to be blocked.

Can we all agree that whatever version of predictive text we have nowadays is crap, and has been for a long time?

I'm sick of random capitalisations mid sentence. I'm sick of common words being replaced by less common ones or even downright nonsense. I'm sick of it taking three attempts to successfully get the word I want. I swear it's been like this for five years or more. Can we have a better version yet, or at least the old one back?

In 2009, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia released a five-year review of dog-bite injuries. The review states that 51 percent of attacks were made by pit bulls.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19644273/

In 2009, another study was published by the American Journal of Forensic Medicine and Pathology. The study ran for 15 years and it has concluded that pit bulls, German Shepherds, and Rottweilers are among the most common breeds that cause fatal dog attacks in Kentucky State.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19696575/

In 2011, the Annals of Surgery published a study, which concluded that Pitbull attacks lead to more expensive hospital bills, higher risk of death, and higher morbidity rates compared to other breeds of dogs.

Stadia was severely underrated and misunderstood, and Google was to blame.

It was a great solution for me who didn't want to purchase a game console but wanted to play games occasionally.

cloudless OP ,
@cloudless@lemmy.cafe avatar

Xbox Game Pass rotates games all the time. That means if I want to play a 50-hour RPG, I might have to finish the game before it gets rotated out. And Xbox doesn't make the schedule available.

With Stadia I could purchase games and play it at my own pace, even without a subscription.

cloudless OP ,
@cloudless@lemmy.cafe avatar

AFAIK, you can purchase the games but the purchased games are only playable via Xbox/Windows.

Xcloud is limited to the games available via subscription. Unless they changed this recently.

The games available to play with cloud gaming vary based on platform and region. You can find the latest selection of titles available for cloud gaming here: Xbox Game Pass Games Library

That means only games in the Game Pass library is playable via cloud.

In a few months they are going to launch a brand new Google One Hangouts+. You will be able to transfer calls to AI, so you can watch YouTube Shorts while pretending to be in the call.

For only $99 per month you can enjoy less features than Google Meet which will be killed anyway.

Yeah Gemini's tone is weird. It is constantly reminding you that Gemini does not have an opinion on anything. It actively tries to avoid giving definitive answers whenever possible.
