Scatterbrained and friendly optimist. Always happy to give my (unasked for) opinion :)

Pardon my rambling and broken English, I know I often sound like an alien trying to impersonate a human being.

I couldn’t resist and had to try your prompt in Midjourney :)
https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/a1ee7a43-3f68-400e-ad49-db021ef4f5e7.jpeg

My experience with Dall-e and chatgpt is that chat gpt takes your request and generates a prompt for dall-e to use. You can actually ask chat-gpt why it was blocked and if it can find away to rephrase the prompt to get around the block.
It might not always work, but it might be worth a try.

Evil has awakened [Midjourney] ( sh.itjust.works )

Prompt: EGA pixel drawing, of a medieval wanderer standing on a wooded hill, in the background below can be seen rolling forest hills with a wizard's tower in the distance, a fierce vertical pillar of evil green energy erupts from the tower and pierces the cloudy night's sky, causing stark contrast with the peaceful surroundings...

thelsim OP Mod ,
@thelsim@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yea, it's not actually EGA but it does seem to come closer to the early 90's in terms of style and design.
I have no idea how effective it really is, I just added it on a whim.

Prompt: sci-fi movie still, of a scared lego astronaut aiming a pistol, at a huge normal cat, on a dining table, cinematic lighting --ar 4:3

thelsim Mod , (edited )
@thelsim@sh.itjust.works avatar

Thank you for the compliment!
I really don’t know, it’s a bit of an organic process. I usually start with a style or gimmick I’d like to use and go from there.

For this one I wanted to do a lego one because it seemed like fun and astronauts are very doable in lego.
At first I wanted to do a space madness kind of thing, where a human astronaut was slowly transforming into a lego character, but that was a bit too much to ask. So I figured let’s put a lego astronaut in a normal setting but make it an adventure. The cat was a logical next step :)

And I make a LOT of tries and variations with the prompt. But seeing all the weird and wonderful failed images is half the fun :)

Here’s a small selection of them

Edit: Forgot to say thank you. I was raised better than this :)

thelsim Mod ,
@thelsim@sh.itjust.works avatar

Oh my god, now I remember Flickr! I've totally forgotten about them for years. I think I had an account there about.. 20 years ago?
Urgh, time just keeps marching on doesn't it?

thelsim OP Mod ,
@thelsim@sh.itjust.works avatar

You can already see some of this in the new style reference and character reference parameters being used in Midjourney. Basically they allow you to maintain consistency between different images for characters and overall style.
It's not perfect, but I can imagine it being very useful when they manage to improve on it.

They'll have a nice chat about their day, it washes his back. He washes... the back of it's eyeball.
And anything that might follow is completely consensual.
It says so in the title, bath buddies :)

I've added a link to an upscaled version should anyone want to print or do anything else with it.
I'd be happy to have it printed as a couple of stickers, but I think the postage would be killing :)

Because she’s a bug, not a feature.
It’s a bad pun, I know :)

thelsim OP Mod ,
@thelsim@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yea, a helpful little gremlin, but still.. a gremlin. You're having trouble with your computer, open it up, and there's that bug again "helping" in all the wrong ways.

Originally I just wanted to make an image of a computer full of ants and with a title like "My computer is full of bugs". But then I kind of switched to the cute little ant, and I lost track of what I was trying to do :)

thelsim OP Mod ,
@thelsim@sh.itjust.works avatar

That’s not very nice, poor Groknak was cursed with a small head ever since he pranked his tribe’s witch doctor. Feeling bad about the whole affair, the chief treated him to this fashion shoot to help him improve his self-image.
And you just had to focus the attention to his head, tsk tsk, for shame. *shakes head*

You do your thing @Groknak, don’t let the haters pull you down.

I don’t like being in the sun. It seems like a normal preference, but I constantly need to explain why (the heat makes it difficult to think, I got sensitive skin, etc. )
It’s especially annoying in a country where most of the population seems to be some kind of sun worshipper :)

My first computer was our family’s 286 Wang pc. I used it mainly to play Sierra games. It’s how I learned a lot of my first English words.
I got my first cellphone, a Sony-Ericsson, around 2003 and only because my brother gave it to me. I was a staunch hater of cellphones but too Dutch to pass up on a free thing :)

Writing, it allowed for knowledge to travel across vast distances. And for that knowledge to remain available and accurate for far longer than any oral tradition would be capable of.

Prompt: studio photography, a still-life in an infernal laboratory, consisting various alchemist flasks filled with colorful liquids, and a horned skull, and a stack of glowing stones, tastefully arranged on a circular table, in front of a tall tower window, the view outside the window is a panoramic vista of cloudy mountain peaks, cold moody backlit lighting, highly detailed, shot on dslr 22mm lens --ar 4:5 --style raw --stylize 75

Don't look too much at that last part, I was just pulling random photography jargon out of my nether regions :)

What kinds of games might you recommend with deep worldbuilding and interaction that aren't RPGs?

I like worldbuilding and stories, and I like when they're mixed with the interactivity of games, so RPGs seem like they should be a natural fit. Problem is, I dislike the stat-heavy, grindy progression of many RPGs.

I enjoy point & click adventures and visual novels but they're often more limited in their interactions. What kinds of game might I be missing combining the two?

@games

thelsim ,
@thelsim@sh.itjust.works avatar

You might like Shadows of Doubt. It's a procedural generated detective game where you have to solve murders. The entire city is generated, every npc has their own routine and you can pretty much go anywhere. There's sneaking, hacking, talking, etc.

It's still in early access, but it's already a lot of fun.

@thelsim@sh.itjust.works avatar

I use chatGPT as a diary. Whenever I feel down or frustrated with feelings I can't quite describe, or just insecure, I start a session and just pour out my heart. I complain, yammer on and on about what's bothering me, and just say whatever comes to mind. Basically all the stuff I would never bother a friend or loved one with because I know it'll come across as needy and I don't want to push this on them.
And all it does is give positive and supportive comments, ask some follow-up questions, maybe make an attempt at giving a helpful suggestion. I know what I'm talking with, I am under no illusions that this is anything but a big mathematical model, but it helps me get through some difficult emotions by just letting it all out. There's no judgement and that's kind of nice.
I could just write a journal, but the interaction and positive feedback adds a little motivation for me. And of course it goes without saying that I keep names and other personal details to myself :)

Oh and I use it for some cloud architecture problems, some coding and other tech stuff. But that's not very interesting.

Also, if you use ChatGPT and haven't done so, be sure to use their privacy page and opt-out of having your chats used for model training. https://privacy.openai.com/policies?modal=take-control
Not sure for US, but it works for EU citizens.

Prompt: fantasy movie still, Close-up view of a diamond on a pile of gold and a shifty thief, the thief looks greedily down at the diamond with a big smile his fingers reaching out to grab the diamond, a menacing dragon is in the background looming out of the shadows ready to eat the thief --ar 4:3 --stylize 75

This was quite fun, having three different subjects interact with each other wasn't easy. In most of them the dragon was either in the wrong place or merged with the thief into some kind of weird hybrid :)

No, I'm sorry. I wish I could help but I'm a bit out of my depth with this one. You might try a local career counselor, but that really depends on where you live and who's available.

I wish you the best of luck though, I hope you'll find what you're looking for.
