I live in such a town. You could buy a gorgeous mid century style home for less than that. It's very close to one of the best universities in the county. There is an Amtrak station that is 2hrs from a major city. It's only a 2hr drive to two other major cities. A lot of nice bike paths. It's in a large blue state. Only 15-20 minutes to a mid sized city Fiber Internet is available. Cons: Schools aren't the best, because there is quite a bit of poverty because it's a low cost of living area. Property taxes are quite high. So if you don't have kids it is a decent place to live. You could also move out of city limits where you're outside of the school district as that is the majority of property taxes.

My guy do you think jumping on a teams meeting or using Excel and sending emails is difficult? Office work is unskilled work. Management is unskilled work. Having a degree didn't suddenly make you a skilled worker. Hell, even sys administrator and programming are unskilled, all you have to know is how to Google stuff. They consider car mechanics unskilled for reference.

Under the aca a full time employee is 30 hours or more per week, so they're going to give part time employees less than that to avoid giving them health insurance and other benefits. That's why many people have to work multiple jobs.

In many red states you have to declare a party when you register to vote. This makes people think that they have to vote their party in the general election. People also don't know that you can abstain from voting for an unopposed candidate.

My attorney said that the ballif wouldn't let him in without a tie one time. He had a last minute call from a client and didn't have time to grab one. She finally let him in without one, but this guy can break any rules he wants to.

Dress code is up to the judges discretion. Look up your local court dress code and see for yourself. Judges can and do require male attorneys to wear a suit and tie.

These kind of companies pop up from time to time. Only Tesla and Rivian have been mildly successful. All the small car projects were always vaporware.

PriorityMotif ,
@PriorityMotif@lemmy.world avatar

They didn't make their first car until 05' and they took over production of that from another company.

They have been making all electric cars for a few years now. There is no way that they can import them to the u.s./UK) Europe/Aus etc. and keep the same price point. There isn't going to be any way for them to pass safety standards.

So there's this company called flock safety. They provide license plate cameras for the majority of police departments in the US. They're talking about providing another service in order to do traffic analysis. It won't be too long until they start selling data to advertising companies. You would say, so what they can't know who I am based on a licence plate. Guess what? If you go to a gas station they could take a picture of your license plate and corelate it with your credit card in order to find your name. Imagine driving down the road and having targeted ads on a billboard.

You could definitely put some blame on the manufacturer, but in legalize you "knew or should have known" that there was a possiblity that your vehicle could hurt or kill someone. You sent it out into the world without a driver in it, not the manufacturer. I wouldn't be surprised to see warnings and agreements attached to autonomous vehicles telling people that there is risk.

Study reveals "widespread, bipartisan aversion" to neighbors owning AR-15 rifles ( www.psypost.org )

PriorityMotif ,
@PriorityMotif@lemmy.world avatar

I think most gun owners tend to own quite a few guns. I also have seen where people tend to buy multiple AR-15 rifles in order to build something different every time for no discernable reason other than they like to build them and show them off. The issue is that the AR-15 platform attracts certain kinds of people who really don't have an interest in shooting as a sport. If it wasn't available I would guess that many of those people wouldn't buy some other rifle in its place.

I just did some research on some supplements that might help with a medical condition my wife suffers from. There is a brand that has a suspiciously high rating on Amazon and has an F score on fake spot. I found some scientific studies about using the plant extract for her condition, but they look at if they have been written by the supplement industry as does the Wikipedia every for the extract. There are verified doctors on YouTube that talk about it, and say that it can help, but to be weary of supplements and the claims companies make.
It's still possible that they will help, but there's no way to know until she tries it. Unfortunately, the most trustworthy source is the one with a bunch of reviews that people probably got a discount or free product to write. There's a bunch of other brands, but those look even sketchier. I also found a few sellers on eBay who will send the powdered extract from India labeled from a company with a website that doesn't load. Lastly, I could obtain a few of the plants and dry the leaves myself. I'm not sure exactly how many leaves I would need for one dose though.

So yeah, I did my own research, suck my dick if you have a problem with it.

It's likely not worth using, maybe splitting the nodes out individually for colleges to use for research projects for a few years. The cabinets are probably worth something because of the graphics on them. The power consumption, lack of the high speed storage, and large scale industrial cooling system make it impractical to use. You would probably need an entire power substation in order to run it. You could probably install it at an industrial site, but you would still need to come up with networking and installation, which could cost more than what you paid for the thing in the first place.

PriorityMotif ,
@PriorityMotif@lemmy.world avatar

13% eBay fees, around $5 to pack and ship it, not including your time. Around $8 net per chip, so, $60k less returns/losses, then taxes on that. It might be worth it for one of those large liquidation companies, but they usually charge companies to recycle their equipment or pay very little at auctions.

PriorityMotif ,
@PriorityMotif@lemmy.world avatar

I mean, even if some company has a practical need for it, or even just wanted to sell compute time on it, it wouldn't be worth it due to the operating and installation costs. Although, it wouldn't surprise me to see individual nodes from this poping up on /r/homelab, those guys are nuts.

It looks like each blade has 4 modules with 2 processors each with up to 9 blades plus management and networking in each blade cabinet and 4 of those in each rack. Liquid cooling is only an option, so it could be possible to run it on air only. I couldn't find much on the cooling system other than it's self contained if you have one if the separate cooling cabinets. It does look like is an air to water radiator. You could pay run it off of a pool pump or something.
