Is this windows 11 and up or windows 10 as well?

Alternatives to Google Docs/sheets?

What are people using in place of Google docs/sheets/etc? I'm looking for a simple program that syncs with the cloud so I can access my documents on my different computers or my Android phone. I run Windows 10 (don't crucify me). I use libre office for things that can stay on one computer, but for things like school notes,...

CCMan1701A ,

Last time I checked the Synology office apps on Android didn't work too well. Has that changed recently?

CCMan1701A ,

That's from Generations. It's at the end of the movie.

CCMan1701A ,

Should be listed as 9001. That way IT'S OVER 9000!!!

CCMan1701A ,

I loved playing simcopter, but for my racing needs midtown madness was plenty of fun.

CCMan1701A ,

If things weren't broken then how would you know they changed anything? 🧐

CCMan1701A ,

I use them all the time for contractors and architects. Nothing else ....

CCMan1701A ,

I noticed that my Google TV client is always logged out asking me to select user. Is this a new feature?

CCMan1701A ,

You must have a big house 😅

CCMan1701A ,

It's ok, if I see it again tonight I'll pull the logs and check for anything obvious.

TV is working as expected today and yesterday. Also I updated to .2 release this morning. Maybe my TV was updating the other days and killing the app, not sure.

Are the following NAS options okay for live transcoding?

I am setting up a new Jellyfin server, and I am looking at using a NAS to host it through Docker. However, I don't want to make the mistake of forgetting about the power needed for live transcoding (MKV 480p -> MP4 (I haven't set up a good conversion method yet)). Are any of the following NAS options okay for standalone...

CCMan1701A ,

I'm hosting on a Synology, but not transcoding.

It's likely more affordable to host a second jellyfin server on a desktop that is used for transcoding vs getting a NAS with the hardware.

As also mentioned you may not need to transcode unless you want to down mix to reduce bandwidth when not home. For those cases I would recommend you use handbrake and have multiple versions of the content at different resolutions/codecs as needed. Yeah it's work.

The majority of issue I have when running locally is audio codec compatibility. So I use ffmpeg to reencode and remux my mkvs with the new audio stream. (Typically eAC3)

CCMan1701A ,

Cool I updated anyway because I live dangerously

CCMan1701A ,

I'm actually pretty good at finding memory issues in .net programs, maybe I'll debug this a little on my setup if I get a moment. Dotnet trace was essential for this as it was a Linux arm device

CCMan1701A ,

You just need your mom to date someone that works at a secret government base, "borrow" their badge, swap the uranium with dish soap, and good to go.

CCMan1701A ,

Dang, I just got a heart monitor that synced to Google fit to get my target heart points tracked...

CCMan1701A ,

😅 ok great.

CCMan1701A ,

I'm using polar bears. 🤞

CCMan1701A ,

I got the coospo one, but found the polar apps easy enough to use.

CCMan1701A ,

Yeah, Wish is an odd movie to watch. It's not too clear why this movie even exists except to promote the 100 years for Disney which doesn't really happen till the credits roll. Maybe they thought if we didn't understand a reference made in the film we would be motivated to watch other Disney content ?

CCMan1701A ,

Yeah, you do have to set the opt out of telemetry for the runtime as the default is opt in...

CCMan1701A ,

I prefer opt in, but I guess that's a dream.

Some info for others: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/core/tools/telemetry.

Seems odd that 'dotnet run' will collect, but 'dotnet app.dll' will not.

CCMan1701A ,

Sweet. Need to see about running this as an app on my phone for the next port :)

CCMan1701A ,

With removable batteries, you can swap in a fresh pair. Not ideal, but a possibility now.

CCMan1701A ,

I've been to the Amazon fresh a few times and it's alright.

CCMan1701A ,

I would agree that I do not have a degree in journalism.

CCMan1701A ,

It's fine, I'm totally unfazed by your comment. 👍

Media Skipping after recent releases

My Google TV picked up the latest versions of the jellyfin app and now a few of my 4k movies are no longer working as expected. I'm getting pauses and it looks almost like a buffering issue. I checked with my NAS and see network to the TV to be around 9MB/s which is fine for a wired connection. I used to be on wifi, but started...

CCMan1701A OP , (edited )

I didn't see anything in the logs aside from starting the video. Is there something more I should see?

I noticed the app on my client was limited to 100MB via the settings, but I thought that just determines when to enable transcoding. I changed it to Auto. I need to test tomorrow.

Update: this setting seems to just limit what can be loaded.

CCMan1701A ,

I remember when WebOS had unified messaging. Those were the days. 👴

CCMan1701A ,

We can cry together.

CCMan1701A ,

I'm running a pixel 7 with out a protector, but a basic phone case. Run fine and it's going to be supported by 3rd party roms for that extra security/os longevity.

CCMan1701A ,

Would help with video conference calls, but 265 is fine for now.

CCMan1701A ,

This looks like a way better interface over Synology photos which is fine, but missing the search and map feature. You need to see if they are hiring 😂

CCMan1701A ,

With that logic, the psycho remake should be considered a good movie.

CCMan1701A ,

This looks like a direct to video (streaming) movie.

Hardware recommendations wanted for Jellyfin server

Right now I'm running Jellyfin on an old mini-PC with a Celeron J4105. That seems a bit underpowered. I'm using Linux Mint and the installation is with Docker. I'm looking to replace it with something better, so what would you recommend? My criteria are:...

CCMan1701A ,

There is a chart in the jellyfin docs that shows what codecs are supported which will help see why or when you need to transcode. I'm not sure how upto date it is, but it's an ok starting point.

If you are using handbrake to limit transcoding, bring the file to h264 or h265 and eAC3 for audio. Audio transcoding is very easy for most hardware, but video can be tricky. With that said, I don't have transcoding enabled for my setup and it's been working great for over a year now. For the few times I have audio codec issues, I'll just fix the file myself with ffmpeg and remux the file with the new eAC3 track.
