Today, a bunch of people on my Mastodon feed are making declarations about somebody apparently flying a flag upside down, and this apparently has something to do with the New York Times being terrible....
as well as what @jjagaimo said, there is also a scaled weight based on time since activity that is applied to hot/scaled sorting that allows things to bubble to the top but to slowly sink as they get older
I am currently trying to create my own Lemmy instance and am following the join-lemmy.org docker guide. But unfortunately docker compose up doesn't work with the default config and throw's a yaml: line 32: found character that cannot start any token error. Is there something I can do to fix this?...

Hi there, I'm a registered nurse in Phoenix, Arizona and I'm seriously considering moving abroad because this country is driving me insane for a lot of reasons. I was considering moving to Israel since I'm Jewish and I've heard they have a better healthcare system there and pay nurses well but this war has made me not really...
I bet if the kind of things happening in the US happened in China, I wouldn't be able to stop hearing about it. I mean, people are still criticizing the Tiananmen Square massacre, and hasn't anything happened since then? It's like still making conspiracy theories about Kennedy's assassination or 9/11, those are old news.
in the communities i hang in here there a a good few that must be in their 50s (and i'm one of them).
just look at the number of posts in the *nix and self hosting communities for comments about pre and early linus users, or selfhosting email back in the day , or bsd/unix usage

Driving in Japan with the wheel on the right side. The first time I did that last year I drove on the wrong side of the road about 5 times and got a shock every time when I saw all the ghost drivers just to quickly realize that it's me who is driving the wrong way. Hey all. noob-ish pirate here. Skipping long winded post. I'm struggling to find sources to download/torrent kids cartoons. Some are easy, but I'm looking for paw patrol and it's scarce on 1337. Our first daughter had a old smart phone at about 8 (she has just turned 9). It doesn't have data turned on, so is more or less a dumb phone unless she is at home. I don't think her little sister could care less about getting one.
I think that it's good for her to have one as it means she can contact us if she goes up the road to her friends or park/shop.
She doesn't have it for at school or general day to day life - so it may not be the best example
The earthquakes were caused by space lasers, and the coming eclipse is god doing his best to drop them from orbit. His plan is to have them fall on Mar-a-Lago
and that one guy (Lasse) was burnt out and pressured [by jia?] to step back and let jia be the person that the whole internet infrastructure relied upon

Good on them for having/gaining the strength to come out and go through a process that must be very difficult. Shame on people that call it out as a posable bad thing and attempting to shame them

I'm so tired of hearing about US police brutality and China being authoritarian. Why does it feel like everyone is a hypocrite here? Where are the posts about Chinese protests and police brutality?
