Society pathologizes autistic "special interests" which we use to self-regulate. It also mocks us.

Everyone deserves to have their passions respected and valued, especially when they are essential for our wellbeing.

Autism is a disability.

This isn't controversial.

It doesn't make us morally despicable.

The non-disabled (and their allies) wish disabled people would simply stop existing.

That we would just die.

Disability threatens the core of the non-disabled weltanschauung

Autistic masking leads to significant harm to an human's sense of identity & mental health

It is a survival strategy that forces us to prioritize NT expectations over authentic self-expression, often leading to profound self-alienation & diminished self-worth.

The Autism Industry must paint humans in a certain light in order to justify their products and abuse.

Those of us who believe in the Neurodiversity Paradigm are a threat to their commodification of our bodies and minds.

@roknrol @actuallyautistic absolutely - it promotes the idea that those of us who don't have them are less worthy of life.

What does “unmasking” mean to my comrades?

@actuallyautistic

theautisticcoach , to ActuallyAutistic group
@theautisticcoach@neurodifferent.me avatar

When an human shares their life and thoughts with you, it’s because they like you, feel safe with you, trust you.

If you use that opportunity to make them feel small, refer to them as self-centered, or reject them, you really don’t know the first thing ✔️

@actuallyautistic

Our emotions tell us a lot about what’s happening in our lives.

Because of people telling us that we emote wrong and alexithymia, however, we lose touch with them. Then we get bullied for being “emotionless”

How do you get in touch with your emotions?

@actuallyautistic

Autistic humans challenge societal norms not just by existing, but by redefining them.

Bullying doesn't just hurt humans in the moment - it has long-term effects on our mental health.

Studies show that autistics who experience bullying are at a higher risk for anxiety and depression.

Yet we are somehow “privileged” & get “too much leeway”

Autistic Masking involves suppressing our true thoughts and feelings to fit in and feel safe.

Autistic Burnout is more than just fatigue - it's a profound exhaustion that comes from the continuous effort to navigate a world not designed for neurodistinct minds.

Understanding and support are crucial in managing and mitigating its impact on our lives.

Masking in folx isn’t just hiding who we are.

It’s a response to societal demands for conformity.

Let’s shift the focus from changing autistic people to changing the environments that demand masking.

The push against ableism isn’t just about individual rights.

It’s about dismantling broader systems of oppression that marginalize neurodistinct individuals daily

Respecting personal space is vital for everyone, but for folx, it can be even more crucial.

Unsolicited touch can overwhelm our senses, leading to distress or overload.

Always seek consent—it's a simple act that can make a world of difference to us.

The thing labeled as “executive dysfunction”' in humans is actually a response to feeling unsafe or overwhelmed.

How do we create environments that feel safer and more accommodating, helping to naturally support focus & organization?

@actuallyautistic

Something I often hear from comrades is that we often perform emotional labor to stay safe, interpreting and managing others' feelings at a high cost to ourselves.

the idea that autistic people can't manipulate and lie is wrong - it happens all the time - it's a form of masking and one that helps gets short term needs met, albeit in a dysfunctional way that ultimately leads to long term needs not being met

Are you seeking connection with fellow autistic individuals who understand your journey? Do you desire an autistic coach and guide who truly comprehends the challenges of navigating a neurotypical world? Join us to explore and embrace your autistic self in my 5-week autistic life coaching program!

Regardless of whether you were diagnosed early or later in life, you may have spent years suppressing your autistic identity and conforming to neurotypical norms. Our focus will be on self-advocacy, unmasking, and cultivating self-care and self-regulation techniques. Let's embark on this empowering journey together!

My autistic peer support coaching groups are built in order to create community and bring together like-minded autistic people looking to grow their autistic self. We are all looking to find or get further in touch with our inner lives and unmask and live authentically.

Everyone will have an opportunity to share, to speak, to contribute, and to grow together in the small autistic communities we build together. All sessions are held on Zoom (virtual).
