Winter Welcome Ale (2023) bucks the season (it’s 80 here) but is nicely light and malty with a hint of sweetness. A good summer beer too!

Speedway Stout with Coffee for an eye opening and wonderfully complex mix of malt, dark fruit, coffee, caramel, and chocolate notes.

Trying a Wig Splitter oatmeal coffee stout with spicy white chicken chili for dinner. The label would make you the think it’s a mind blower, but to me it’s a chocolate nose that’s flat on the coffee flavor. OK but not a keeper as compared to other coffee stouts.

    Had not planned to have another pastry stout after an evening of Cabernet Sauvignon wine tasting, but managed to DROP a can earlier and crimp the top lip enough so it was leaking. What are ya gonna do??

    Chocolate Malt Amore sat in a glass in the fridge for 4+ hours and has definitely flattened out. Still rich with chocolate malty goodness!

    Gotta travel light as my son wants to bike/explore the 10 mile race course he is running tomorrow. It’s so twisty curvy I have to wonder what the organizers were drinking when they laid it out!

    2024 Calamity bourbon and whiskey barrel aged Russian imperial stout!

    Wonderfully dark bourbon nose and roasty, chocolate, and dark fruit notes in a full-bodied pour. Subtle sweet differences from the bourbon and whiskey BA add to its complexity vs the regular version. Heavenly!

    One stout I hadn’t tried yet for some reason. Waiting to drop some burgers on the grill, so let’s fill the gap.

    Whiskey Barrel Stout is 11.8% ABV. Boozy lead with a whisky and dark fruit finish. They say vanilla and espresso - to catch those otherwise hidden hints.

    2022 Barrel-aged Nova Praha Med, bottle 368 from in New Prague, MN

    A Czech influenced imperial stout aged in Templeton rye barrels. Smooth honey and chocolate notes with a spiced finish from the rye. Tasty!

    The back of the bottle reads: *BIER -FLAVORED- BEER Czech for "New Prague Honey," this Imperial Stout was brewed with 75lbs of local honey in a 10bbl batch. This year's batch was aged in Templeton Rye barrels for 5 months. Expect a smooth, chocolatey stout with notes of vanilia, sweetness from the honey, and a spiced finish. - Prost!

    After yesterday’s Hot Chocolate 15k (which I did not run, but did eat some treats), a two mile walk, and another two miles on yard work, it’s a chocolate theme day two!

    Belgian Chocolate Toffee Vanilla Stout has a curiously neutral nose but a beautiful creamy toffee chocolate richness and a tasty lasting finish.
