Emphasis on “some”. I used to work at a hotel. When people arrived at 11 AM expecting to check in, I had no problem making them wait in the lobby. I was polite about it, of course, but also firm.

Our housekeeping staff worked harder than anyone else in the building. I wasn’t about to give them a hard time on behalf of some ignorant, inconsiderate people.

You’re totally correct. I’m thinking of instances when we were fully booked the night before, AND the guests who wanted an unannounced early check-in had reserved a specific type of room we didn’t have many of to begin with.

If we didn’t know not to allow late check-outs for those rooms, and housekeeping didn’t know to keep an eye out for any departures from those rooms, we could run into problems.

I was always happy to help people out when I could. Getting positive feedback from guests was the best part of my job!

It is factual news. The artist, Vincent Namatjira, has done many paintings in this style.

Famous for his quirky style of painting, Namatjira is known as a ‘satirical chronicler of Australian identity’ whose “paintings offer a wry look at the politics of history, power and leadership from a contemporary Aboriginal perspective.”

The Archibald prize winning artist has used his unique style to paint notable figures from the Queen to Slim Dusty, usually to pretty good receptions.

I like the Butlerian Jihad and resulting ban on even the simplest of “thinking machines” as a way to help explain away any anachronisms, too. Clever solution.

I also appreciated that the recent movies haven’t tried to explain that, but hinted at it with, for example, analog gauges in the ornithopter.

The number of organizations involved, and their complete uselessness, just makes things even more pathetic and (at times) unintentionally hilarious.

“…Baltimore International Seafarers' Center, a non-profit organisation that works to protect the rights of mariners” is an actual nonprofit? Guess what, folks, you’re doing a shitty job! Somebody else is thinking about organizing a cricket match to take these guys to? Seriously?

I sure am glad there are at least two religious organizations involved, because “thoughts and prayers” always fix everything!

I’m not sure “downvote” should be included in Opt-out. Some instances allow a poster to see exactly who downvoted them. If someone is saying something obnoxious or repulsive enough to consider reporting, there’s a good chance they’re doing it on purpose. I don’t need to be on their trolling shit list.
