This idea really has me tickled pink. It’s like if Unicron was a fuckin dinobot.

That being said it’s hard to forget that the difference in elevation between Mt. Everest and the Mariana trench is less than the greatest variation in elevation on a standard regulation billiard ball so this would be one gummy ass velociraptor dinobot planet

BmeBenji ,

This feels like one of those Ford Pinto moments, where the accountants and lawyers got together and determined there was a larger profit margin to take the path less traveled

What do you think of the term "short king" as a term that's supposed to champion body positivity for men?

Body positivity is such a strange concept to me. There's efforts to reclaim words while simultaneously calling them bad if used as an insult. Ideally, people wouldn't be offended by someone describing their body with common descriptors, but socially there is so much value attributed to certain body types that it's almost...

BmeBenji OP ,

Let me preface what I want to say with the fact that I have previously lost half of my bodyweight largely because of a lack of body positivity in my head, and it’s still lacking.

You seem to be of the mind that people who have “unhealthy habits” should be shamed into living a healthier life. Where does that end? Should only people who physically appear to be unhealthy be shamed? Should people who have actual unhealthy bodies be shamed? Should people who have invisible unhealthy habits like hidden bulimia be shamed? Should people who have unhealthy mental conditions that are only diagnosable by experts be shamed?

I’m not being sarcastic or rhetorical, I’m genuinely curious where the line should be drawn. Some people are physically incapable of losing weight. Some people are perfectly healthy despite appearing overweight, yet they are treated like less valuable people because they don’t conform to beauty standards. Some people are notably ill despite fitting conventional beauty standards.

Body positivity is about eliminating social standards of beauty that ignore health, not about making unhealthy people think they’re better off being unhealthy. Furthermore, health is absolutely a luxury for many people. When survival is expensive, surviving with the time and money to take care of your body can be unattainable

BmeBenji OP ,

If you think the culture celebrates being unhealthy then you should know the only part of the culture that does that is the corporations that benefit off of it. The rest of us are trying to eliminate the unconscious bias people have against people who are “fat.”

If you see someone who you think is unhealthy because they “fat,” think again.

Thank goodness the boat was there to protect the man from the goat

BmeBenji ,

I’m pretty confident the slur-status of a word is closely rated to whether or not it is used in a hateful way to refer to a people group or member of a group that is in some way disadvantaged. For example the n-word is obviously a slur and “cracker” or “whitey” obviously are not. That’s why cisgender isn’t a slur, even if people can and have use(d) it in a hateful way.

Grind by Gojira

I live and breathe satirical art and this song is sarcastic to its core

“You’re all shredded
You’re all scarred
Fighting the tide

Your tough face on, you think you’ll last long against the grain?”

Plus it’s very cathartic to do a scream-a-long in the car

BmeBenji ,

IDK if it’s unpopular, but I’m worried that TikTok, Instagram, and Youtube Shorts have completely screwed with what kind of music gets popular nowadays. It seems like every popular song has some kind of intense drop because content creators love the “quick build up to some kind of visual punchline” video format and it has ruined what I think could otherwise influence and encourage originality

BmeBenji ,

I have never heard that quote. From what context does it come? It sounds somewhat ridiculous to me

BmeBenji ,

Look, I love the idea of Linux but unless you have your head in the sand it’s obvious that Linux takes a good deal of technoliteracy to use.

BmeBenji ,

I played God of War (2018) a few months ago without any more context than what is known about Kratos in the public eye. The 2018 remake does not tell you what Kratos did, but it shows you how it affects him. Flawlessly. This game nails the “show don’t tell” approach like so few do. If you like narrative driven games, or want a good modern story about a man trying to be a good father, or like well-designed action games, or like norse mythology, this game fucking rocks.

BmeBenji ,

I’ve managed to avoid spoilers this long for Spider-man 2. If Ragnarok is coming to PC then I’m pretty confident I can hold out until it comes to PC as well

BmeBenji ,

We really need more clues. This could be any one of a thousand songs

BmeBenji ,

Just one more chance bro all the justice department needs is one more chance bro and the whole system will prove that it’s working please bro just trust me bro the fascist dictator is going to be punished bro I swear bro you gotta have faith bro

BmeBenji ,

Pretty sure this is the plot of Horizon: Zero Dawn

BmeBenji ,

Slightly off-topic but I really enjoyed the way Horizon Zero Dawn (spoilers ahead) illustrated the military industrial complex with Ted Faro. The dude was so convinced he was right about everything that not only did he help create the deadliest legion of machines ever conceived, he also deleted all knowledge acquired by humanity because he fucked up so bad that he thought anyone less smart than him (read:everyone else) would fuck up just as bad if not worse with the same knowledge. I imagine most real military contractors are lead by people who are similarly humble

BmeBenji ,

Oh I’m still going through Forbidden West. When I read the first part of your comment I thought you were spoiling it for me lol

BmeBenji ,

You Don’t Know You’re Beautiful by One Direction?

BmeBenji ,

Just the Way You Are by Bruno Mars?

BmeBenji ,

I would never have thought this was the answer but I totally see it now. Good frickin guess

BmeBenji ,

Let’s Start a Riot - Three Day’s Grace?

BmeBenji ,

Pretty sure you just described like every sports team with a fanbase. The Football Team of Theseus.

49ers fans love to brag that the 49ers are among the teams with the most Super Bowl wins, but they haven’t gotten one in like 3 generations of players so you tell me, 49ers of Theseus. Do you have any Super Bowl wins?

BmeBenji OP ,

This is what I was taught when I was a kid. Somewhere in the Bible I think it says “blessed are the allies of Israel” or something like that but that seems like a terrible reason to arm and fund a genocide so it seemed like there had to be a different reason

BmeBenji OP ,

This isn’t flame bait. I honestly didn’t know. I’ve heard a mixture of confused ideas and wanted to see what people here thought.

Why can’t anyone here answer it? Shouldn’t it theoretically be transparent to at least some people in the US? Maybe it’s not but that sounds like a huge problem

BmeBenji ,

Gojira. It’s just angry noise and there’s no words to be heard, and even if there were lyrics they’d be in some strange dead language

BmeBenji ,

I can’t think of a game that Valve has released just to make money except for Artifact which totally flopped.

From what I understand, Valve has a non-hierarchical internal personnel structure and projects are started because someone has an idea that other people at the company like and want to work on.

Half-Life 3 won’t get traction inside Valve unless it has something to push the envelope like the other main-line games had. Half-Life had unrivaled first person storytelling. Half-Life 2 has unrivaled physics to play with. Half-Life Alyx had an interactive environment unlike anything else that exists even still. My money says if Valve can’t think of something gameplay-wise that’s as enticing right now as any of the previous games had when they were released, they don’t care that the story is still on a cliffhanger.

BmeBenji ,

With friends like these, who needs brick walls?

BmeBenji ,

“Do you have anything gluten free?”

BmeBenji ,

I had a lot of conversations with my dad about how glorifying people is setting yourself up for failure when there were loads of protests were going on about bringing down statues of famously racist people who did like a handful of notable things i.e. most of the U.S. founding fathers.

I wouldn’t suggest keeping a list of names that you admire. Maybe keep a list of things about those names that you admire

BmeBenji ,

The wild monetary successes of Call of Duty and Fortnite send a clear message: treat unsupervised children as prey and you will earn billions of dollars

BmeBenji ,

Blackbird by Alter Bridge? It’s a stretch, but the lyrics seem more hopeful than the song sounds in a really beautiful way

BmeBenji ,

Following rules because you’re afraid of the consequences is extremely different from falling in love with or even desiring the rules.

BmeBenji ,

Easily one of the cooler images Ive seen on here. Alas, I know not the song

BmeBenji OP ,

You got the band right though!

BmeBenji OP ,

“The four great elements of your body are collapsing one into the other”
