iPad Pro with M4 chip boasts impressive performance jump compared to just-released M3 MacBook Air ( 9to5mac.com )

On raw performance might, the M4 really does live up to Apple’s promises, should deliver. Single core is up about 20% compared to all M3 chips and more than 40% compared to M2. The generational computational leap from the previous M2 iPad Pro is at least a 42% jump on single-core and multi-core.

I can only think of one thing you could do with this much power ...... run an LLM

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

Experiment with arch, void (musl), Nixos and atomic distros like fedora silverblue, bazzite

I mostly use a download manager for parallel downloading a file. (downloading multiple parts of a single file at the same time).

[Resolved] After updating through both APT and the Software Store, I can't play mp4 videos with VLC anymore. The screen goes blank for a second or two then the audio starts playing without the video..

I'm using Debian 12, Ryzen 7 5700X processor, and Radeon HD 5450 graphics card. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling VLC but it didn't resolve the issue. Here's an excerpt from the VLC's log file:...

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

Maybe try a full update. Partial updates are problematic.

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

According to Debian Wiki
VLC has limited support of va-api for hardware acceleration. Try fixes in the wiki. It might help.

You should change the title, as it is the continuation of the story. People will think its the same story being repeated.

Many popular foss apps use Open collective

Rabbit R1 is Just an Android App ( lemmy.world )

See, it turns out that the Rabbit R1 seems to run Android under the hood and the entire interface users interact with is powered by a single Android app. A tipster shared the Rabbit R1’s launcher APK with us, and with a bit of tinkering, we managed to install it on an Android phone, specifically a Pixel 6a....

thequantumcog OP ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

I was lazy to find the real picture. So, I just posted the first one I found.

thequantumcog OP ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

Well, looks like rabbit is taking down these videos 😂. All of the videos of rabbit r1 running doom or Minecraft are now private. Still found one on twitter.

thequantumcog OP ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

You are missing the point. The point is that there is no need for such a device, a simple android app can do everything that rabbit r1 does.

Broadcom is also closed source (I think). I have to use closed source drivers for my broadcom wireless adapter on Linux.

Newpipe is getting updates on fdroid again and seem like will be getting updates for the foreseeable future as the issue stopping it is solved. ( f-droid.org )

Also on an unrelated note anyway to remove live from your subscribed channels update field ? Some channels are filling it with live so i have to really scroll down to see my video feeds and can't find a setting to switch it off. Newpipe didn't used to add live in your what's new feed of subscribed channels, related pic .

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

The proxy is unstable. I just disable the piped proxy and it works perfectly.

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

Even before the HLS bug, libretube was finky, I think newpipe also doesn't use proxy so I'm fine with it.

This article seem speculative. Qualcomm did provide TDP info for Snapdragon X elite.
They displayed two variants. One with 80 watt tdp which was 10% faster (according to them) than M2 Max and 23 watt variant which was a little faster than M3.

No, you can create multiple accounts, but using different emails.

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

You can make multiple accounts admin of a Facebook page, even if one account is banned, you can still manage your page.

I am talking from experience.

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

I just made a separate Facebook account for my business. That's all. I am not managing the business anymore. But the account still works.

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

If you want pure gaming, one-click, steam deck like experience try Bazzite or you could also try Nobara.

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

Rofi also has a wayland fork which I use rofi-lbonn-wayland. All of the previous rofi configs work fine with this.

Make a .desktop entry in .local/share/applications and any launcher will be able to launch it

Edit: You could also change their names to match your alias

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks, I will definitely try that

I think what you are looking for is a network share. You can browse files and download the ones you want

Then How is Google different? From my view, It also manipulates search results.

I don't understand what US problem with China is.

Note: I am not an American nor a Chinese. I have never used tiktok before. I am just an outsider trying to get a perspective.

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, I know about that. But why is US limiting technological advancements in China? (By banning GPUs / companies).

I don't see China doing the same.

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

I was not talking about censorship. I was talking about technological advancements.

But you have a fair point as this post is about censorship.

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

I was not talking about tiktok. I was talking about them banning sale of high performance gpus to china

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

In my country every platform is pushing some kind of bias from the government.Government can ask to remove any kind of content from YouTube, Facebook, tiktok, etc. Especially political ones.

I have seen YouTube favoring one party in particular in their breaking news section even on a new account.

On a sidenote, its good for tiktok to be banned, I hate short form content.

GSI are dominant now, device specific Roms are rare these days.

thequantumcog , (edited )
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

Here you go: GSI List

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

No, it's not at least in my case. Actually GSI Lineage is a little bit faster due to less bloat than stock. But performance could be different for different devices.

Note: I experienced some bugs but all of them were easy to fix.

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

I am using Infinix X6831

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, it's an Asian brand. That's why you have never heard of it.

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

Even if your device is not listed, it is still supported. Every phone launched with Android 8 or greater support project treble. Thus, it also supports gsi.

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar
  1. DSU works properly for Android 12 or greater.
  2. If fastboot works you don't need twrp.
thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

Both N10 and N20 do not support DSU because they launched with the Android version less than Android 12.
But you can still install GSI with the traditional method.
Check you VNDk version with this app and I can tell you which gsi's are supported by your device.

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar
  • Android 14 QPR2 will cause problems
  • Try this one.
  • Make a Backup of your data
  • Unlock Bootloader (if you haven't already)
  • Reboot to bootloader
  • fastboot flash system gsi.img
thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, you will have bugs. But those are fixable with toggles in the TrebleApp.
And Gapps are included.

which launcher would you suggest and why?

so I finally got the motivation to install lineage os to my phone after thinking about it like year. and now that I finally modified this phone I started thinking about ricing this phone a bit. I'm looking for a launcher that isn't too minimalistic and with a decent amount of customization. kinda like kde bit you know... stable....

What're some of the dumbest things you've done to yourself in Linux?

I'm working on a some materials for a class wherein I'll be teaching some young, wide-eyed Windows nerds about Linux and we're including a section we're calling "foot guns". Basically it's ways you might shoot yourself in the foot while meddling with your newfound Linux powers....

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

For this very reason, I have aliased rm -rf with trash-cli

thequantumcog , (edited )
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

Could be varoius reasons. Some common ones:

  • distros can have different kernel parameters
  • unloaded kernel modules
  • different kernel parameters
  • older kernel/packages
  • missing packages

You can narrow down which distros work and which hardware support is missing. Also look at archwiki for that specific piece of hardware. You can find a lot of useful information even if you don't use Arch.

thequantumcog ,
@thequantumcog@lemmy.world avatar

No, look up what drivers/modules/packages your hardware need and load them/upgrade/install on the buggy distro
