Book review #30 for 2024 is Collin Dexter's The Riddle of the Third Mile. This time Morse and Lewis face the task of identifying a severely mutilated corpse. Their journey takes them into the lives of men and women with much to hide. The plot was interesting and entertaining, but I found the end uneven, convoluted even. ☕☕☕ cup review. #books#bookreview#fiction#collindexter@bookstodon@books@bookstodon
Book review #29 for 2024 is Collin Dexter's The Dead of Jericho. Another Inspector Morse installment. The characterization of Morse in this novel showed an uncertain and anxious detective who works to solve a murder of a woman that he was wanting to have a relationship with (affair is the better word). ☕☕☕ cup review #bookstodon#books#fiction#bookreview@bookstodon@books@bookstodon

Book review #27 for 2024 is Steve Silberman's Neurotribes: The Legacy of Autism and the Future of Neurodiversity. A helpful and informative book on the unfolding journey of and...battles with/for, regarding people who interact with their world differently. I found this book to be helpful in understanding the rise of what we today call neurodiversity. ☕☕☕☕1/2 review. @stevesilberman@books@bookstodon@bookstodon#autism#neurodiversity#books#books2024 #
Book review #26 for 2024 is John R Bruning's Race of Aces: WWII's Elite Airmen and the Epic Battle to Become the Master of the Sky. An interesting yet sobering re-telling of the men, primarily in the Southwest Pacific Theater of operations, who fought to beat Eddie Rickenbacker's 26 victories in World War 1. ☕☕☕☕review #books#ww2#history#military#bookreview@bookstodon@books
Book review #25 for 2024 is Scott S Greenberger's The Unexpected President: The Life and Times of Chester A Arthur. A good biography of the 21st President of the United States. His reputation, and the reason for Garfield's murderer, created a cloud over Arthur's assumption of the presidency. ☕☕☕☕review
📕Book Review #22 for 2024 is Toshikazu Kawaguchi's Before Your Memory Fades. This volume of Kawaguchi's Before the Coffee Gets Cold series is set in the city of Hakodate on the island of Hokkaido and not in Tokyo. I felt that the end of this one was a bit rushed, and with more storylines, compared to the other two volumes I have read. I like the book but not as much as the first two. ☕☕☕review @bookstodon@books#books#bookstodon#fiction#Japanesefiction

Book review #21 for 2024 is Edward P. Crapol's John Tyler, the Accidental President. I think that seeing the 1840's era Presidents getting more critical looks is good for the study of American History in general and presidential history in particular. I think that the work adds to the understand of not just Tyler's administration but of 1840's America as well. A ☕☕☕☕ review #books#bookstodon#POTUS#biography#JohnTyler@bookstodon@books@bookstodon
Book review #20 for 2024 is Robert Caro's The Passage of Power: The Years of Lyndon Johnson. The first volume of this series, The Path to Power began a 40 plus year reading journey of every American President, that, with exception of POTUS 46 and 45, has continued to this day. This volume of Caro's series focuses on the 1960 election and up to the spring of 1964. Well written and moving.

Book review #19 for 2024 is Michael D'Antonio's Milton S. Hershey's Extraordinary Life of Wealth, Empire, and Utopian Dreams. A good introduction to the life, times, and legacy of Milton S Hershey. It is a sympathetic telling of Hershey and his life, but it does not shy away from the numerous conflicts and challenges, personal and professional, that were part of his life and work. #books#bookstodon#hersheychocolate#nonfiction@bookstodon@books A☕☕☕☕review
Book review #18 for 2024 is W Craig Reed's Red November: Inside the Secret US-Soviet Submarine War. Beginning with 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis and continuing into the early 1990's, Reed's book recounts US sub operations and their electronic surveillance and espionage missions into Soviet territory. I liked it and thought it gave some excellent background to some Cold War era events.

Book review #17 for 2024 is Toshikazu Kawaguchi's Tales from the Cafe. I loved Before the Coffee Gets Cold and put Tales from the Cafe on my TBL. I was not disappointed. It is sad and hopeful at the same time. It put me in a reflective state as related to my own life and I continue to find the series helpful. #books#bookstodon#reading#fiction#japanese@bookstodon@books
