ruud

@ruud@lemmy.world

Admin of a lot of fediverse servers, among which the .world ones:

  • lemmy.world
  • mastodon.world
  • calckey.world

You can find me on these servers as @ruud

I receive a lot of messages, direct and mentions. I can’t reply to them all. If you have an issue, please e-mail at info@lemmy.world

This profile is from a federated server and may be incomplete. View on remote instance

I like Vivaldi, which is Chromium based. I also like Safari for the speed. Difficult to choose between the two.
The feature that Vivaldi has and Safari hasn't, which I'm missing in Safari, is tab auto-refresh.

I run a pixelfed and misskey on the same server, and used to run a mastodon besides that. No issues. (I use docker)

When exactly did it stop? Maybe we can check an action on our side did that?

ruud OP Mod ,
@ruud@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah somewhere between twitter and facebook clone, more like Mastodon. But open-source and federated, like Lemmy.

ruud OP Mod ,
@ruud@lemmy.world avatar

For moderators surely Mastodon. For admins too..
For users: that's a taste-thing.
I'm not a developer so can't say...

Ahh yes I meant as opposed to Twitter and Facebook. But I worded it badly 😁

Depends on what sort of invoices. For my invoices for billable hours, I use Kimai

Too bad fire.fish is also gone…

Ahh nice. I know what I’ll be doing tomorrow.

Anything that the family uses. Because when I cease to exist, my wife isn’t gonna take over self-hosting! So e-mail, chat, documents etc.

ruud Mod ,
@ruud@lemmy.world avatar

I hadn’t either until a few years ago. It’s something worth considering.

ruud Mod ,

I really like Joplin

Ooh… Silverbullet looks really useful!! Just installed, need to figure out what I can do, looks like a lot of functionality!

ruud Mod ,
@ruud@lemmy.world avatar

I’m still running Synapse. Could I migrate this to Dendrite or others? Or would I have to just re-install and lose all messages…

Backup / restore gets complicated if you have multiple apps in 1 dB

ruud Mod ,
@ruud@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, terminology… I mean single instance. And although you can create pg_dumps of separate databases, a true (online) backup of separate databases is difficult. Tools like pgbackrest or barman don’t support it. (I mainly focus on Postgres)

ruud Mod ,
@ruud@lemmy.world avatar

Rsync works fine for most data. (I use borgbackup) For any database data, create a dump using pg_dump or mysqldump or whatever. Then backup the dump and all other volumes but exclude the db volume.

Having trouble deploying Lemmy? Try my new script! Get up and running in minutes! ( github.com )

In the past few days, I’ve seen a number of people having trouble getting Lemmy set up on their own servers. That motivated me to create Lemmy-Easy-Deploy, a dead-simple solution to deploying Lemmy using Docker Compose under the hood....

Really awesome work. We need more Lemmy servers!

I run lemmy.world on a VPS at Hetzner. They are cheap and good. Storage: I now (after 11 days) have 2GB of images and 2GB of database.

I think there’s a misunderstanding. In the docker-compose.yml, you specify services, and these services can use the official container images. The only thing the docker-compose actually does is define your services so you don’t have to specify them each time starting a container.
