Oh, man, it's happening. There was an @sts article (or book?) that I really thought was Maria Kaika but very apparently isn't about three phases of modernist water management—something like ascendant, triumphant, and chastened, or some such.

I went to look it up tonight in the old references and I cannot find it.

To all the folks in the , does anyone know of an STS treatment of the Horizon scandal?

Via Ron Filipkowski:

#RNC Co-Chair Lara #Trump says they will now be recruiting & training people to get jobs as poll workers who handle & count ballots, and says Trump will end early and mail-in voting in America if elected.

Counterpoint: the thing I've been most worried about among all this is that the GOP's direct voter engagement program has been REALLY good for a couple of cycles. They've convinced a fair number of voters the GOP is a sane, rational party despite the behavior of its elected.

Near I can tell, they just fired most of the people who have been running that.

Countercountercounterpoint: Kerry ran an incredibly shitty campaign and had idiots advising him to build everything around his identity as a veteran, which made him incredibly vulnerable to swiftboating. Also, he has the charisma of beige latex paint.

@GottaLaff Like seriously, exactly one Democratic candidate has lost the popular vote since 1988 . . .

Does anyone have any references for interpretive social science(ish) papers that use public comments (as in a federal register) as data? Or perhaps any methods papers that address using public comments? (Have I asked this already?) TIA!

I did in my dissertation. I just did a standard open coding on a small subset to establish a code book and then did a closed coding on it for analysis. Is that helpful?

I see a lot of articles along these lines. “The Kamala Harris Question.” “The Challenge for Kamala Harris.” And so on. I just don’t remember similar articles about other VPs. “The Dan Quayle Question.” “The Challenge for VP Biden.” Vice Presidents are there to support the president and largely don’t have much else official to do. But the media and the public are holding Harris to a higher standard. Hmmm. I wonder why?

@georgetakei I do remember "The Dan Quayle Question" articles but that was because he was uniquely prone to howlingly embarrassing incidents.
