@palestine the other protest was against China's banning of Falun Gong, a bizarre ban given that Falun Gong is mostly a set of exercises like tai chi and not exactly a major threat...

50 Spanish universities to break ties with Israeli institutions

The Confederation of Spanish Universities (CRUE) announced on Thursday that it will cut ties with Israeli universities and research centers “that have not expressed a firm commitment to peace and compliance with international humanitarian law.”

Never forgive the Guardian for their deliberate misrepresentation of antisemitism, not only helping enable the current genocide but also destroying the reputation of one of the few leaders that might have actually worked towards as solution @palestine

In an era of post-truth, the strategy of rigidly defending your version of truth and attacking other people's view of the truth is a largely self-destructive excercise that just creates a never ending argument

Understanding the logics and rationales of those people we disagree with is a far better way but requires humility and nuance

Naomi Klein in Doppelganger and Büscher in The Truth About Nature show us how this can be done with , and

I personally think the concept of logic is unhelpful in a post-truth world.

Lakatos explains this well in his work. Those with different paradigms or worldviews cannot agree on a common rationality because they have literally different worldviews.

This is increasingly true in the post-truth era. There is no common worldview, so therefore no common rationality.

Emotion is a good approach. As is how worldviews are created, e.g. by narrratives.

Sorry, corrected my post... I meant Kuhn not Lakatos (it was a few years since I read this)

Rereading my interview with a local activist, a damning indictment of private conservation. A well known local river of huge conservation value had a section that nobody collected data on. It was privately owned. That is, until he trespassed and found a huge area infested with Asian Clam, devastating to many other rare species in the river. The river is now dead, he says. If it was public land it would have been seen many years ago. Private land enables neglect. We need commons @academicchatter

I think I have never in my life flagged an email I sent as "high priority" ❗ and I intend to keep it that way.

Do people who do this derive a special pleasure from it? Do they think it works?

@academicchatter

Alexlee ,
@Alexlee@sciences.social avatar

@dingemansemark @academicchatter the kind of people that do that, in my experience, tend to flag ALL their emails as high priority. They are also, coincidentally, people who are highly irritating.

Anyone wanting to try and take action on their university campus about the silencing of Palestinian voices (supported by Tory alleged "free speech" advocates) BRICUP are a great organisation to get in touch with https://bricup.org.uk/get-involved/

I went to a talk with them last week where they gave a talk to counter misinformation, about knowing your rights and how to organise against this repression. @academicchatter
