There’s nothing quite like a Roman chariot race, but wait, have they replaced the horses with phalluses? And are those phalluses propelled by chicken (cock?) legs? Goodness!
This is not an ancient intaglio but a #neoclassical work that shows Kronos holding up the severed genitals of his father Ouranos, blood raining to the ground. #PhallusThursday is not always sexy 🫣
The Icelandic Phallological Museum displays a huge statue with a very unGreek flaccid phallus. In #GrecoRomanArt, the foreskin is long and tapered, the shaft is short and thin when flaccid, and always a grower, never a shower.
Like many things in life, there’s the art and then there’s the phallus drawings. I guess we can safely appreciate this gesture that’s near Hadrian’s wall as either one or the other 😅
A #spintria is a small bronze or brass Roman coin depicting a sexual act and a number on the other side. They were probably used as locker tokens in Roman baths, where there were erotic frescoes in the changing rooms depicting similar sex acts.
Top reason to go to Delos? To see these magnificent phalloi set up to show appreciation to Dionysus and Pan. Just a matter of finding where the tips went…
For an especially auspicious first #PhallusThursday of the year, I'm sharing with you one of my favourites, this flock of flying fucks from Suffolk. May good luck and happiness find you in the #NewYear2024!
Hic habitat felicitas, nihil intret mali. (Here lives happiness, may nothing bad happen)
Far be it from us to suggest you visit Pompeii to go on an exploratory phallus-finding mission… but we certainly wouldn’t try to dissuade you either. Just look at that phallus framed by other phalluses! Must be good fortune 🥳
It's the Day of Hermes aka Mercurius Day aka #Wednesday! 🐏
A premature #PhallusThursday for good luck in this #NewYears week: a young man carrying a sacrificial basket passes by a herm, a simple statue of #Hermes with a head and a #phallus at the appropriate height. He gives the phallus a rub for good luck. May your #NewYear2024 be happy and full of joy!
This delightful barbotine vessel is adorned with sweet phallic creatures with legs resembling those of chickens and either wings or maybe antlers (at a pinch).
