This is absolute fairytale nonsense. This is only the stuff we know about:

Every market from Tuna to CDs. Companies want your money, and they know unions work. It's so common Matt Damon was in a movie about a famous example.

Sure, that makes total sense, if greedflation were only happening in the US. It's a worldwide problem.

Yeah the government is paying me to post facts on lemmy from my toilet. That is totally a real and normal thing to think when confronted with new information.

They never will admit they were wrong. It's like climate change. We've been saying we need to do something since the 70s and they've been denying reality since.

Now we're on to the "it's too late to do anything" stage of conservative thinking.

  1. That's not real
  2. It's real but it's not our fault
  3. It's real and it's too late so stop talking about it

Sweet lord the Brazilian tourists are out in force on this thread.

They found him in a hotel known for sex workers, in a district known for sex work, with an 11 and 12 year old girl.

What was he doing, tutoring them?

He fled the country to escape consequences and I think we're all safer knowing his name and face.

Cool, here's a video of a known static electricity ignition.

NoSpiritAnimal ,
@NoSpiritAnimal@lemmy.world avatar

They do engineer the pumps to ground the static charge. That's what can cause the arc.

You discharge yourself the first time you touch the pump before you fill up.

Getting back into the car defeats the purpose by then grounding you in the presence of fuel vapors, rather than before.

NoSpiritAnimal ,
@NoSpiritAnimal@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, which is why the recommendation is to keep your hand on the handle while pumping or touch a metal part of your car prior to returning to the pump, and don't get back into a car.

I have a real life degree in automotive technology and engineering, and you saw a Mythbusters episode.

We can keep doing this forever if you like, but you're still very poorly informed on how safety is engineered into your vehicle fuel system and the mechanisms that support it.

Here is some reading to help you, API recommended fuel procedures (if you're not familiar with the API just read any gas pump or bottle of oil until you are):
https://www.api.org/oil-and-natural-gas/consumer-information/consumer-resources/staying-safe-pump

Most important, motorists should not get back into their vehicles during refueling. It may be a temptation to get back in the car for any number of reasons. But the average fill-up takes only two minutes, and staying outside the vehicle will greatly minimize the likelihood of any build-up of static electricity that could be discharged at the nozzle.

Citing your dad's job is a wild way to claim expertise.

Watch out entire industry that's been operating for more than a century, Dark Arc's dad is an engineer and he has correctly interpreted the facts you can't even seem to grasp.

Quick, now do perpetual motion! Those simpletons have barely even tried.

Not that this will mean anything to you, but this feels a lot like when someone says "why don't we just run lean so we save fuel?".

You have my sympathy, but it sounds like you had a super fucked up childhood and you're now externalizing that trauma onto an unrelated group of people.

Your uncle was a sexual predator, not a trans woman. Trans people are not usually gender fluid so they don't switch back and forth like your uncle and they certainly don't pretend to be a real relative to bully that person's children!?

Honestly it sounds like your uncle had serious issue with your mother, probably stemming from his own childhood abuse. Abusers are often abused. You don't mention them, but I'd bet your mothers parents were not great either.

Caveats like "they own it, they don't pay so others can't own it" are meaningless at ground level.

No, to have in this instance means for the cake to exist in your possession.

Once you eat it, you don't have it anymore. You can't share a cake you ate, or put it back in the fridge, or add more sprinkles, it's ceased to be a cake.

So have your cake and eat it too is impossible. The saying means something is an impossible desire.

American intelligence withheld information on Moscow terror attacks out of fear of exposing intelligence sources or methods ( www.nytimes.com )

The adversarial relationship between Washington and Moscow prevented U.S. officials from sharing any information about the plot beyond what was necessary, out of fear Russian authorities might learn their intelligence sources or methods.

Hey some good news this morning

NoSpiritAnimal ,
@NoSpiritAnimal@lemmy.world avatar

Reagan’s enshrining as a conservative saint was largely due to the efforts of Grover Norquist in the 90s.

Lieberman has no Norquist, as neither side cares for centrists. There will be some weird glowing op-eds from the usual corporate rags, but they lack the power they had in the 90s.

He will mostly be forgotten except in places like Lemmy, where he will pop up as one of those "hey did you know why we don't have proper healthcare?" TIL posts.

Facebook was extremely aggressive in getting their software preloaded on all hardware sold in developing areas over the last 20 years. So countries like India (with one and a half billion people by itself) have a large segment of users that think Facebook is the internet. It's Zucks ultimate walled garden.

3 billion of those people likely access Facebook for everything that we think of as online. Commerce, social networking, music, videos, it's all on Facebook.

Yes and it's still infinitely recyclable, unlike plastic bottles. 70% of all aluminum ever produced is still in circulation thanks to how efficient aluminum recycling is, including epoxy lined cans.

So I will enjoy.
